Starting the new year off with the rare drink for me of a gin and ginger beer. I got a six pack of Gosling's Ginger beer but I haven't tried it yet. I got some Jamaican ginger beer a few years ago and I couldn't drink it. Too strong. I have the Gosling's rum and I want to make a Dark and Stormy.

Albertson’s in this region bought Safeway. They both operate out of the Albertson’s distribution center. Kroger operates Fry’s grocery stores here, they used to always have the better prices, not so much anymore, the meat and produce at Albertson’s is better.
I really like Smart and Final based out of LA, they started as a cash and carry for restaurants years ago and sell to the general public. They carry a lot of stuff that cannot be found in the regular chain grocery stores.
Costco’s meat and produce reigns supreme though, their buyers and logistics are impressive. When I worked in California, their loads of produce from berries to lettuce and everything between seemed to have priority, and they had boots on the ground inspecting the shipments.
We just don’t eat enough to justify the amounts that Costco is packaged for. And it is a dangerous store to go to with the liquor quality for the prices.
“ Look at all the money we saved, honey” after spending $300.00.

It's OK, but we were spoiled. The local grocery has the most amazing meat. It's basically a butcher shop with a grocery attached. The meat is cheap, but a jar of Prego Spaghetti sauce is 4.95.

A glass of Quevedo Tawny Port as a follow up to the wonderful supper Marie Callender supplied.

Made a Vesper - per the recipe in James Bond/Cacino Royale - or at least as close as I could come to it.

Same burger joint again. Same Yuengling in the glass. Well, not the same Yuengling. That would be gross.
Dining out options are a bit limited at my dinner time.

Let's call it a similar Yuenling. 😂 I worked nights for years in downtown Houston, and back then they rolled up the sidewalks at 7pm. The closest place place to get food was Popaburger on North Main. It was really good if you didn't mind walking through the gangs.

I like Yuengling - the original lager and their Black & Tan.

An Old Fashioned made with both Evan Williams and Jack Daniels (The Evan was about gone) Angostura orange bitters and simple syrup that I made, but no orange slice and no stinkin' cherry.
