Yea, but it was nowhere near as bad as the latest Antman (IMO). Yeah, I decided to skip that one. Skipping most everything these days. I wanted to see Only Son, but it's left the theaters already. I have not watched a movie in a theater since before the COVID-19 scare. There is nothing produced these days I have an interest in watching.

There's a new Oppenheimer movie in the works that looks really good. That could be interesting. I wonder who they will cast in the role of old J. Robert? Gregory Peck would be a good choice except he is not available just now. . Stanley Tucci comes to mind. J. Robert was something of an odd ball, not unusual for Nuclear Physicists.

Cillian Murphy will be Robert Oppenheimer, he played in Peaky Blinders. Should be a good flick!

I had a college physics professor that worked there. He told great stories. Las Alamos is an interesting place. I can listen to Richard Fineman's lectures every day. In theaters 7/21/23.

Interesting place to visit. The geomorphology of the mesa upon which the lab and town sits makes it well suited for privacy. Access is a bit tricky up the front two lane road. The huge evac route they added in back makes it much easier to get in and out of town. As far as I know, the only well functioning town or city in New Mexico. Certainly well policed by real law officers and not someone's overweight relative. Town police department AND Lab security police. Reminds me when I worked at Travis AFB in the late 1960s. Watch your step, brother! Be careful who you try to strike up conversations with in public places. It takes little to attract a plain clothes security person who follows behind watching. I have spent time there on non-lab business such as training classes and MD visits. Outsiders are scrutinized carefully.

Now it's down to 881 in the US and 36 in New Mexico. That's an indication that the problems with society have hit Los Alamos exceptionally hard.

Watching "Damn the Defiant", 1962, with Alec Guinness and Dirk Bogarde. A Hornblowerish Royal Navy yarn from the Napoleonic wars. Seen it many times over the decades. The great Spithead Mutiny figure large in this story.

Started watching Philip Seymore Hoffman's last movie. The one based upon a recent John le Carrè novel. Muslim terrorists in Hamburg. Stopped watching "A Most Wanted Man". Too depressing watching what are supposed to be German anti-terror counter espionage people fight amongst themselves and the Americans. Hoffman does a good job.

I wanted to watch "Greyhound", the 2022 Tom Hanks movie about a Destroyer (USN) on Convoy Duty in the North Atlantic during the 1942 year of the war. I cannot find it on any service. Someone posted it on YouTube but it does not work. Anyone able to find and watch it on TV?

Watching "The Pale Blue Eye". A series of murders at The US Military Academy at West Point in 1830. Interesting characters and beautiful locations. Disappointing Direction. Being raised on John Huston, Howard Hawks, John Ford, and the Film Noir Directors, many of these modern guys are in too much of a hurry to tell their story.

Watched a very good movie I recommend. "Pascali's Island", 1988. With Ben Kingsley, Charles Dance, and Helen Mirren.
Based upon a fine novel, this movie was written and directed by James Dearden, son of the great English Director, Basil Dearden. Young Jamie learned the trade well from his father. This is a very well developed mystery with light comic overtones thanks to Ben Kingsley's sympathetic character. The Ottoman Turks control a Greek Island in 1908 on the verge of empire collapse. Mysterious happenings owing to the presence of a suspicious Englishman, a menacing Heinie, and the usual Ottoman intrigues. Casper Gutman and Joel Cairo would not have been out of place if they had appeared in Cameo. The story contains enough plot Red Herrings to keep viewers interested, in the typical English mystery style. Helen Mirren is her sultry best playing the independent spirit.
Knowing many of you, I think you will enjoy this one.

Having finished my “serious” viewing I thought I’d go for something different. Never watched any of the Johnny Depp pirate movies so I got “Curse of the Black Pearl” and “Dead Man’s Chest” from Netflix. I mean, how bad could they be? Right? Good grief! Watched “Curse” last night. Unmitigated drivel. Not a piece of wit, intelligence, or real humor anywhere in it. Stale sight gags. Trite “jokes.” Performances called-in on a bad cellphone connection. I guess I’ve been watching too many foreign productions and forgot how dismally stupid Hollywood can be.

I gave you a perfectly good recommendation for an intelligent, sophisticated movie. Did you take that up? No... I recommend, once again, "Pascali's Island".
