Well crap! Tulsa King was supposed to be 10 episodes and it ended with 9. We had our eyeballs all set for another episode. 😩

My wife and I gave Whitstable Pearl a try on Acorn TV last night. We very much enjoyed this British mystery and will be leaving it on our watchlist.

Watching THE WIRE. Again. A re-view after a few years. Seems almost like new.

1923 is back, good show! Yep. I hate having to wait another week for the next episode. Taylor Sheridan that is making these shows deserves his success. He's the driving force behind the best shows of the past 5 years. Besides the Yellowstone stuff, he is also behind Tulsa King, Wind River and Mayor of Kingston.

I finished season 3 of Jack Ryan but am now re-watching the whole series with my son. I really enjoyed it. Tulsa King was awesome as well.

CB Strike about a former British soldier that lost a leg, now a private eye. Pretty good, on HBO.

Started 1883 tonight. It’s confusing me somewhat. 1883 and all this wagontrain stuff? Indians? Pretty well done overall but seems a bit contrived.

The Commanches were definitely still in control of western Texas in 1883. Watch the entire series and you will cry. And, yes, it's a good bit contrived. But aren't all shows, even documentaries?

And here I thought the last band of Comanches surrendered and were reservationized in 1875. Silly ol’ me.

Seems to me that was a plot element in many Western movies. "So-in-so is off the Reservation. Alert the Cavalry"

More 1883 tonight. I’m sticking with it for a while. The script is really good. Maybe a little literary but I can handle that. (What’s with the British voice overs?) Some stuff still bothers me… Cowboy Action pistol rigs; Keith 45 bullets in bandoliers; strange badges on Sam and the Sgt; Sam a Confederate officer and then a union officer; various etcs. And this STILL ain’t 1883 Texas. 1870 maybe, 1875. But not 1883. (At ease, Ron.) BTW, Faith Hill is a very good actress and WAY beautiful. Reminds me a lot of a ranch woman I once saw coming out of the ranch supply store in Sidney. Knocked me out how beautiful she was, even being 50 maybe. A damn Sandhill goddess. Sam surprises me, too. I always thought of him as a poor actor but in this he is doing just fine. I’ve just finished episode 6. Looking forward to the next.

PS… I think Herefords were actually in Texas at that time but I doubt they would have been in a cross-country meat herd. OK, I’m done.

Last night we watched a movie about the strange death of Meriwether Lewis. There were a dozen stories about about how he got shot in the head and gut, and maybe his throat was cut, but at the time it was ruled a suicide. Anyway, he was smoking a briar pipe with the chased silver. Those didn't exist in 1809 in America. There was another glaring error with something else that didn't exist. So what.

I remember ol’ biddy aunts tut-tutting about Lewis— a distant relative. They resented the “implications” that he had a mental infirmity. (He did.) It was the Usual Suspects, those Yankee scalliwags that started such a canard, of course.

What was the title of that film? I’d like to see it. The childhood story I heard was that he was set upon by footpads. He got one but his second pistol failed to go off and he was stabbed to death.

MYSTERIOUS CIRCUMSTANCE: THE DEATH OF MERIWETHER LEWIS We watched it on Prime. There is a beautiful Australian Shepherd in it. Something else that wasn't in Tennessee in 1809.

He was set upon by footpads? I read a really good novel about the Lewis & Clark Expedition, many years ago. I think it was called I Should Be Extremely Happy In Your Company. Author's name was Hall. Brandon? Brian? Something like that. As I recall, it touches (sympathetically) on Lewis's bouts of melancholia.
