One of my favorite songs ever. Not my favorite singer, but he wrote it about 2 of his friends. I think about it every time I see a broken black mother in Shreveport who's child has been killed for no reason. Never heard the song, an interesting read under the “context” tab. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/There_Were_Roses

Sneaking this in before baseball. Colin told me he didn't have prog influences while behind him Jenny Connlee was nodding that she certainly did (and was wearing a Rick Wakeman-esque cape at her keyboards).

My closest cousin looked a lot like Linda Rhonstadt, but she was actually prettier. No we weren’t kissing cousins but I cannot say the thought did not cross my mind.

"Let me have the girl up front. Guys, hang back a little. A little further. Almost there. Actually, let me have you stand behind the trees."

"Let me have the girl up front. Guys, hang back a little. A little further. Almost there. Actually, let me have you stand behind the trees." I liked the band, too. But she was the reason they were there

I need a little strength this morning. Iykyk. It's a Julie Miller, but I dig Dar, Richard, and Lucy's cover.

To help get you all primed for St. Patrick's Day, here's another tune written by Tommy Sands. For folks interested in this sort of stuff--the bouzouki player on the far left of the stage is married to Julie Fowlis.

Ooo, can we do Ewan McColl covers, too? I think I'll be hitting the Pogues this week. [Aside: Rumjacks/Dropkick Murphys/Jesse Ahern were in town Friday night. But for the $175 GA ticket price, I would have been all over it. That's what I get for being poor.]

FiveThirtyEight podcast, soon to be followed by catching up on Malevolent, and just for grins maybe some Ars Paradoxica.

Nice, I’ve seen Bad Company live a number of times, but it was a while ago of course. One of the few bands that seriously outperformed their studio versions when playing live. I hadn’t thought about them for a long time until I saw your post. I’m going to have to dig out some LP’s.
