Frog Morton’s Cellar came with staves cut from barrels, I think many saved and rehydrated them with rum. McC Stave-Aged 35 used the same stave pieces. It’s amazing how much bourbon sweetness those little chunks add to the blend.

I got the idea from you, actually. I think I asked this before, but where do you guys get pieces of stave? It's simple. There's one in each tin of Frog Morton Cellar. 😘🤣

i was afraid of that. I know he sold his equipment when we went to live with his daughter, but that didn't work out and he moved again and was trying to get back into it, but that was about the time i drifted off. He made a lot of pipes after he got back to Texas, and sold every one. I got 2 from him. He just decided he didn't want to do it anymore. As far as I know, He still has all his equipment. He's making other stuff now. well, at least he has something to keep him occupied.

Storm Front/1985 P.A.Mix, in my Boswell, after a bowl of B.H.T., in my Estella at 5AM, with coffee. My beagle must have rolled in poison-oak, and I ended up with a hearty case on the inside of my right arm...it was the itching that got me up at 5.

Smoking some Haunted Bookshop in a Charatan second from the early 80's. Bought it at a newsstand/smoke shop in Athens, Georgia in 1983. They had Charatan pipes and the seconds were sold as basket pipes. They had the exact same pipe shapes and the numbers stamped matched the shape numbers on the "real" Charatans. The owner of the shop said that he wasn't supposed to tell me but Charatan sold the third quality stummels to the Dr. Grabow factory in NC and they finished them out to make nice seconds. I don't know if he was pulling my leg or not.

GH Rum Flake in my BC calabash. I try not to repeat myself by re-liking the same pipes over and over again too much -- and I think this is still only twice for that one -- but dang, that is a sexy pipe.
