Gargantua and Pantagruel by François Rabelais. Old stories that no one expects. Pretty funny in small doses.

Re-reading a bunch of Bertrand Russell essays. Pipe worthy material! Good stuff! Indeed. He is a wonderful writer. I had a copy of his History of Philosophy which someone took.... I must order another copy. Thanks for the reminder.

"Confessions of a Yakuza" by Junichi Saga Since you mentioned Yakuza, there is a very good movie with that title made in the 1970s with Robert Mitchum and Ken Tanaka. Worth watching. Filmed in Japan, of course.

Reading C.S. Forester's "Brown on Resolution". Made into two movies. One with Jeffery Hunter as Brown which I enjoyed. The earlier version, 1935, with John Mills, I am looking forward to seeing if I can find it. Great tale.

Just finished All Quiet on the Western Front - our local school district has been doing book sales twice a year and I always keep an eye out for any classics. They're basically giving them away at this point - I paid $5 for a legal document box filled to the brim.

Finished reading Salem's Lot, the first Stephen King I've read, I think. Starting Tuchman's The Distant Mirror.

Liberal Misery: How the Hateful Left Sucks Joy Out of Everything and Everyone Sounds depressing. Yeah, I just skimmed a summary. That was in response to a certain person who also posts stuff that he probably doesn't read either.

Jim Harrison, RETURNING TO EARTH. Read in a single seating today. Harrison has that effect on me. He has a deceptively easy-going style that makes you want to see what he has to say next. At least it works that way on me.
