I personally think that 10% of that price would still be steep for that pipe. Even though I don’t smoke many briar pipes, I can still understand the value of incredible grain, elegant design, etc., which seems to be missing from that pipe, but that’s just me. That lid kinda looks like something I’d expect to see on some $50 Chinese made pipe too.

I’d sooner spend the $3600 on a custom 1911, and I think that is silly enough.

Not my cuppa, but if somebody else wants to buy it, it's fine with me.

I think it’s neat. But I’m also not the target demographic to spend that kind of coin on a pipe.

You could buy 288 tins of Royal Yacht for that price!

Nope, neither is the Castello at $3400, which I think looks better.

I think it’s the same process that makes some pieces of canvas slathered with paint “worth” $50,000,000. Money in pursuit of caché.

Well, they have several pipes in a similar price range that don't have a silver dragon on top. Just say'n. 😉

No sale here...if I ever run across a Bo North for Thirty-five Hundred, I'll be all over it, otherwise, I'm keeping a tight grip on my clip.

Have to wonder: If you buy a $3600 pipe, do you smoke it? The guy I know who buys every Dunhill Ltd edition buys two. One goes in the bookcase one he smokes.

Have to wonder: If you buy a $3600 pipe, do you smoke it? I would. I’ve got a couple of 4-digit pipes. They get used like anything else. I’ve got some other nice things that do the same. Like any good American, I own too much stuff, but I am good at not letting any of it own me.

Basically a Group 4 Dunhill Cumberland that goes for about 6-700 without the accessories. Is the box and doodads worth another 2600? I like Dunhill's, but I'll pass on these 'limited editions.'

I think the dragon on top makes it look really chintzy and gimmicky. Any pipe I own gets smoked but I can't see paying beyond a certain threshold for a chunk of wood from which to smoke. I've yet to spend over $400 on a pipe in 11+ years but I've certainly seen many fetching pipes a few hundred bones North of that price and I've been tempted. I'm sure I'll end up ranging a few hundred beyond my high mark but there are just so many well engineered pipes available today for $500 or less.

I could not agree more, my most expensive pipes are in the $400 range, but when I saw pipes like what Ron Powell turned, at that price point and great smokers… why pay more? There is a point in diminishing returns. I suspect a Chinese person with too much money will be tempted to pull the trigger on a pipe that (seems to me) be targeted to that market.

I get it on a nice firearm, on a pipe not so much.
But to those that do, if it trips their trigger…. 👍

And while we chat about hype and marketing… I was recently confronted with the cover of the latest NRA magazine. Good grief! Two of the most ridiculous firearms I have ever seen. Notwithstanding that some might find them attractive, which is their right— they seem downright silly to me. But the firearm industry MUST keep “new stuff” in the pipeline, AND hype them, to survive and grow. But, geez…
