Up early this morning at 4:00 am and smoking some Schwab's Paul's Stuff in a very nice estate Bacchus carved meerschaum that I got in the mail from Mars Cigar and Pipes yesterday. The only thing I dislike about this new meerschaum is that the stem is not of high quality and seems to be added only as an afterthought. Does anyone know of a good pipe repair person who works with meerschaum pipes? I have had some bad experiences with having meerschaums worked on with two other repairmen in the past. One of them actually shattered the shank of one of my pipes and glued it together and added a nickel band. At least they didn't charge me for it. It was an old Barling meerschaum billiard.

Yes, I was pleasantly surprised at how flavorful it is and how dry it smokes! To the touch, it is not goopy or too moist. I am reassessing my prejudice against aromatics in light of the new wave of aromatic blends now being offered. Do you know of any others that are not goopy and don't burn your tongue? DTM Devil’s Holiday is, in my experience, a nice, no-fuss aro. Thanks for the suggestion; I will try that!

Good Saturday Morning! It's 52° here and raining with periods of rain expected in to tonight. Beginning the smoking day with a bowl of Wessex Brown VA Flake in the Don Carlos Two Note and there's a fresh mugga coffee tucked underneath my jacket.

I've been around town this morning, going to the flea market, farmers' market, two yard sales, and an antique store. Wish I could find some pipes someday doing this. I guess everyone is selling their old pipes on eBay or somewhere else. I'm now smoking some C&D Longevity II in a Comoy's Guildhall billiard and drinking Red Rose iced tea.

I'm finally puffing on a bowl of Brown Sugar Flake that I loaded over a week ago.
I went from an 8 day cold to a horrible sinus infection. It took 6 neti douches to clear my sinuses on Wednesday morning. Today is the first day that I can actually taste something.

Sorry to hear that, sinus infections are no joke… insert gasoline and add a spark is how it can feel! I used to use Neil Med Sinus Rinse, but after switching to the Navage, there is no looking back. After a surgery to correct a deviated septum, and it really made a difference, as it irrigated the crud out. Just before bedtime if I remember to use it, no snoring, if I forget, my wife does not sleep.

Well, that was cut a bit short. The wind came up and just enough cloud cover to take the warmth out of the sunshine. Still, it was nice while it lasted. Evening Flake is such a soft smoke. Here's the Bentley:

Urb's post reminded me to grab a pipe that has not been smoked recently, it is a great smoker, I just have not switched out pipes much, a GBD New Standard 357 prince. We became empty nesters last weekend, as my daughter, her husband, and two kids moved out after 3 years. Went digging through the closet that was my granddaughter's and found four boxes of tobacco that had been put there in overflow before they moved in...the first box had 4 jars of McClellands Red Cake from 2013, the chunks were gooey, like a brownie, the "shake" was at the perfect moisture content...off to the races, what a great smoke!

Kentucky Bird in my everyday calabash. I think I asked you this once before, but remind me what Kentucky Bird is? Kentucky Bird is a VA/Kentucky blend. It’s a somewhat sweet, kind of Brown Sugar type, floral flavored tobacco. I think it’s rose, a touch of geranium and cherry blossom. No cherry flavor though. There are actual cherry blossoms mixed in the tobacco. The flavors don’t overwhelm the tobacco. Although similar flavors to a lot of Lakelands, it’s a bit different. It’s actually a pretty unique tobacco. About medium strength. It’s fairly common in Europe but it’s not sold here, which I find a little funny not only because of the name, but also because the only picture on the packaging is the state bird of Kentucky.

And it makes you want to don the coonskin cap and split a tree with a hatchet! Ed Ames..."Mingo" from Daniel Boone, did his own tree splitting...no family branch when he gets done with you!
