Smoking some Peterson's Royal Yacht in a Genod apple. We had the Knoxville Pipe Club Christmas Party on Wednesday night and had a good showing of seven members. Lots of food offerings and cookies, not to mention bottles of Rye and Scotch. But nobody drank enough to get impaired for driving. Later we had the White Elephant Gift Exchange. Hey John , that is one of the nicer simple pipes I've seen. Simple but elegant. Well Done!

Hope you have happy holidays this season!

Smoking some Haunted Bookshop in a Dr. Grabow Eldorado this evening. My brother found this pipe in an old barn out in Wyoming and brought it back to me to restore. It belonged to a friend of my Dad many years ago.

Would you believe that it's an ungraded i.e. a second? It took me a while to figure out why: a shank shaping error where the oval shank is thicker on the right than the left where it joins the bowl ie non-symmetrical. Very unobvious. But yeah me as it cut the price down. 😎

That is the way it goes in the grading system....and no I would not believe it to be a second unless you said so. Kinda like catching a cop on a bad day I suppose, but it is nice when you are the judge!

The much older Grabow pipes appear to be made better than the newer ones. Somehow they have more character. Just saying...

This is one that smokes wonderfully. The bowl is stout enough to be cool in the hand and wide enough for a good amount of baccy, but not so deep as to be wasteful. It’s good for flakes and ropes.

The Prince shape: Prince Albert was the first son of Queen Victoria, and was named for his father, Albert of Saxony. When her consort died, the Queen decreed that no future King of England could use the name Albert. So, when Prince Albert (for whom the tobacco is named) became King, he became King Edward VII. (For whom the cigar is named.) During his reign, Prince Albert tobacco carried a small legend below his portrait, "Now King". The story goes that The Prince was a great user of tobacco, while his mother Victoria hated the stuff.. After the Queen passed in 1901, the Prince entered the drawing room of the Palace and declared "Gentlemen, you may smoke." And the prince shape is attributed to King Edward VII. Died 1910

You are welcome, I culled that info from a pipesmesmag post, but I know that the information is true...I have seen it for a long time as in the historical timeline.
It is sad that such a notable figure in pipe history only had a 9 year reign....but he left an indelible mark on our hobby!
