two eggs poached in white miso broth with scallions, Chinese cabbage, celery, ginger. After last night's CFS extravaganza this seemed right.

Had a pot luck luncheon after church today. Pot roast, ham, deviled eggs, fried chicken, chicken and sausage gumbo and more. Someone made sweet potatoes like I never had them before. About 40% pecans, more of a dessert than a vegetable.

Roast chicken, pork chops, mixed veg (mostly green and wax beans) and buttery mashed potatoes (just a little) at a social event we attended. An early dinner for me, but I'll be snacking on something this evening.

I was the lone volunteer to work yesterday, I took a Tucson run, but to be fair I had last Monday off and my colleagues worked 5 days (don't blame them one bit), got back yesterday early and the boss told me to expense dinner for me and the wife, went to La Ristra's about a block away from the hacienda, had the Carne Asda chimichanga with Hatch chiles, Pinquito beans and Calabacitas. The wife got a rice bowl with chicken. Wondering if you guys see tri-tip at the stores where you live? I know at one time, when I worked at Facciola meats in Palo Alto back in the 80's, it was not available in a lot of Midwest/ eastern markets. Regionally when the butchering took place on the bottom sirloin, they had a different orientation in cutting...a "West coast" thing for the markets. Guessing that the rise in popularity, it is available where you live? $2.95 a pound, I bought 4 and they average 5# before trimming up… comes with a thick fat cap. After the weight reduction...still a nice chunk o'meat.

Tri-tip is a pretty rare cut in my parts. I wouldn't mind trying my hand at preparing one.

It really is a nice cut of meat, not from the most tender part the bovine, but typically a lot of marbling. Simply roasting on an open grill and pulling off at medium rare, thin slice cut across the grain, and it has texture without being chewy. The size of it with the outer char/med center rare ratio makes it good for many types of meals...center of the plate with a potato and veggies, Burritos, tacos...really a versatile cut.
Ask your butcher, be it the grocer or meat market Pete.
When I worked at the meat company, I bought trimmed Tri-Tips at fire sale prices back in the 80's...I knew then I had a good thing going, and some day would long for "the good old days". 90 cents a pound for Farmers brand Hickory smoked bacon thick cut in a 15# box...Hand selecting my Certified Angus Beef prime ribs from stock, and butchers with 30 years' experience to tutor me in that process.
Getting misty eyed...excuse me.

Tonight's dinner is my wife's homemade soup with pork, beans, carrots, and other vegetables. Pork and bean soup...who knew?

Tri-tip isn't a thing I commonly see, either.

Wife was asked what I wanted her to buy while she was in town, Get me the McDonalds Big Mac Chicken sandwich, get 2 one for the afternoon and one for supper. GENTS AVOID THAT SANDWICH, if it's chicken it must be bits and piece glued together, AVOID AT ALL COST!
