I would have done the same. Thicker is better and leaving some future meals. We do not see T-Bones like that in the local markets. One full pound would be huge! Whole loins were on sale for $6.99/lb,cut to order. We got 8 labeled T-bone and 4 labeled Porterhouse. This one was labeled as a T-bone but was obviously a porterhouse. The filet section was 3.5 x 5 inches. The steak completely covered a large plate, hanging off at 3 places. We never see anything even close to that here. Prices for tenderloin are around $15 per pound. A five rib roast is $350. I cannot order on line any more as the shipping cost is more than the order. A $90 meat order was $100 in shipping. Crazy. It is no better in Alamosa, CO. The kroger market I visited there never has T-Bones, Ribeyes or even Sirloin. Just Chuck steak and Round Steak. I do not understand what is happening to food here. Ordering Porterhouse Steaks on line is $44 to $47 per pound. It is absurd.

The surrounding pasture seems like it could handle 3. Of course, when the rain goes away all bets are off. 60 on 132 acres seems reasonable. If we have a drought, he'll probably dump half and maybe bring in hay. There are a LOT of cows around here, many more than people.

Dinner was left over Tamale Pie from days ago. I added a large slab of cheddar cheese before placing in the oven. There are very problems which cannot be solved by a large slab of cheese.

Here in Arizona, (at least in the PHX area) I do not think local cattle ranching or the lack thereof really plays a role. We frequently see great deals on beef from the midwest… to the point that more often than not I have to take a pass, the freezer is always stuffed.

I’ve had good luck with Bread of Life. They sell through Amazon and ship twice a week in dry ice. I particularly like their sourdough. I looked it up and got communion wafers. Sorry, guys. Not Bread of Life. Bread of Heaven.

For the last twenty hours the small crock pot has been simmering smoked beef short ribs along with carrots, tomatoes, cabbage in stock. Ought to be about ready for lunch. If I had a corn on the cob it would be Caldo de Rez.

I had left over Ragu from several days ago. Meant to use it up. So, I added diced fried pork, tomatoes, and wine and had it on whole wheat spaghetti. Now there is even more left over. Sigh. Well, at least it is good enough for another meal.
