I am off to Santa Fe soon. The Oncologist. A friend is driving, thankfully. I could not make it with reliability. Picking up the Zastava Model 88A on the way since the cooling period has ended. Something to fiddle with while enroute. Take it apart and reassemble a few times. I watched three videos on this. Comrade Tokarev's design seems simple enough. Reading comments from other owners, some of these have feed problems. One person noted his slide stop moved into position after firing. Another mentioned the ill fated magazine drop which plagues some Tokarevs. In this case the owner thought a former owner may have tampered with the magazine drop. These do not have gravity magazine drops. Mag must be pulled manually. Just another economy measure so Ivan does not lose his mag. You know, more State control of the proletariat. Not taking ammunition. So, I will not be firing out of the passenger window while driving.

Hoping for the best, Ron! π
This morning, I drove my loaner car into work. It's a 2024 Hyundai Elantra which is way newer than anything I've owned. The car has a mind of its own! The brights turn themselves on and off automatically as cars pass the opposite direction, it tells me the speed limit of the road I'm on and, most odd, notified me when passing coffee locations with a "ding" and picture of a coffee cup on the dash. Hopefully, my new engine is installed this week and I can return to my own decade. π

From the garden today: a few Roma tomatoes, three Italian eggplants, a handful of broccoli side shoots, a zucchini, a cucumber and a bunch of green beans. I haven't checked the banana peppers or Hungarian peppers yet, but I'm sure there a some ready to pick. I have to cut basil again. I'm going to be eating a lot of pesto this winter.

Went back to the garden boxes and picked a bunch of Hungarian and banana peppers. Cut a shopping bag of basil. I guess I'll be spending the afternoon in the kitchen.

Okay, the new toilet seat has been installed. So now the towel bar fell off of the wall this morning . Well, at least our neighbor's tree removal crew finished up the job and the neighborhood is quiet once again.

Pickled some Hungarian peppers and banana peppers this afternoon. How much more do think that you'll be able to get from this year's garden, Pete?

Pickled some Hungarian peppers and banana peppers this afternoon. How much more do think that you'll be able to get from this year's garden, Pete? I think the cucumbers are about done. Broccoli is winding down. The eggplants, beans and peppers are going strong. I expect a few more zucchini. More basil. The Roma tomato plants still have a fair bit of fruit. The heirloom tomatoes, not as many. I've got a large pot with four Habanero plants that have quite a few peppers, but have a way to go before they ripen, except for a single fruit that is ripe. All in all, I'd call this year a good one. It is, on the whole, tapering off.

Thanks guys! I have been hung over from the anesthesia. Everything was fine. Dr said it didn't look like anything to him but it was too small to get a sample. He wants to do another MRI in a year. I'm already scheduled for one in six months for the cysts on my kidney. I figure if it's anything at least we can catch it early and my team of doctors is on top of it. π

But, there is an expiration date on that.π Hope all goes well going forward.

That comes from being drugged stripped and violated. π

Not much from the garden today. Just a couple Roma tomatoes and a few Japanese eggplants. Took out what was left of the cucumber vines and topped the tomato plants. I'll probably do a little more clean up today.

We're in afternoon heat shower mode. Pouring down right now and blowing pretty good. Did the same about this time yesterday.

A/C compressor is frozen up. It's been rain-forest humid all day. It seems the A/Cβs frequently do it during the most extreme temperature spikes. Hope it can be fixed soon.

It never did thaw enough to work overnight. I just left it shut off. The unit would run, but it wouldn't move any air. A/C man got here a little while ago and, of course, when I turned it back on it kicked right in and did its thing.
He's giving it the once-over, anyway.

Today's harvest from the garden: a few Roma tomatoes, banana and Hungarian peppers. There are a couple more eggplant that are ready to pick, but we've got to do something with what we've got in the kitchen.
