Was anyone around on May 5th 1961 to watch Alan Shepard become the first American astronaut in space. They herded about 90 of us into the cafeteria to watch in the 19 inch b/w TV to watch the Redstone rocket not explode. We were quiet. We will need the brand of the 19inch Tv and the network it was tuned to. Also describe the 1961 cafeteria workers. GE or Sylvania. NBC. Typical older women with hairnets.

I remember two times when my Mom and Dad sat my sister and I down in front of the TV and said "Watch this. It’s history being made." One was the first moon landing and the other was Nixon's resignation.

My coworker named Dan decided to place a $100 bet on Mystic Dan in the Kentucky Derby, 20:1 odds.
Told him I’m pissed at him for withholding the info.

I’m having a very noisy Monday. Water has been running down the street all weekend and today the city showed up to fix it. Tore a big hole in the street and have had heavy trucks and equipment rumbling by all day.

Eventually, MLB stepped in and made arrangements for the games to be broadcast once again.

That whole Bally Sports bankruptcy created quite a charlie foxtrot for baseball fans (among others). Baseball's blackout rules for tv coverage are also a fiasco that they're going to have to address at some point. It'll require the owners to stop being penny wise and pound foolish, though. My Dodgers are just coming off a sweep of the Braves, which none of us expected, and start a series tonight against Miami. (Having swept the mighty Braves, we'll probably get swept by the tanking Marlins.)

Got up with the sun to go back to Texarkana to get more blood tests. Highlight was it was a gorgeous day. The girls in Waffle House were in fine style.
What would happen to the world without short order cooks?

The Dodgers have all the talent money can pay for, if they can harness it. That would be fun!

The Dodgers have all the talent money can pay for, if they can harness it. That would be fun! They were not shy about spending money this offseason. They also have a bunch of guys from their farm system. They're an interesting mix. Somewhere in my general vicinity, a man and a woman are having an outdoor screaming match. I really thought maybe I wouldn't have to hear this kind of thing after moving out of apartments. I don't think it's actually in my neighborhood. I think it's from a neighborhood over. Been going on a while. I'm surprised their closer neighbors haven't asked them to take it indoors.

Found amongst things digging through the cellar, rare find! Beautiful patina! Legend has it that none other than Charles Peterson wove leprechaun beard hair to make them, and these cleaners deliver the driest smoke possible. Self cleaning too.... not responsible for operator error though. Silent bidding starts at $150.00, funds go to Remaining Survivors of the Irish Potato Famine.

I found a crate full of pipe odds and ends. Maybe some missing pipes. Alas, it wasn't what I was looking for.

This is where I cross the Rio Grande del Norte. The Lovato Bridge in southern Colorado. The old 3 inch planks before the refit are what I made the bed in my truck with. A neighbor took this photo last week. nearest bp service station

And a pretty scenic bridge it is!
We had a couple drivers routinely crossing some bridges in New Mexico with trucks that have a 52,000 GVWR on some super shady bridges with no restriction warning signs, some were early 1900’s with no sign of maintenance.
When I covered them runs, that all came to a halt, the patients had to come and meet me. At first they were not happy about it “ but the other guy drove on it”. I explained that if they lost their bridge, they would be screwed…
All commercial driving is not the same, some 40ish y/o class B drivers know less than this class A driver did in his 20’s.

I do not recall. I do not even recall their being a sign but there must be one. I checked the Colorado DOT Bridge website and it does even list this bridge. I think it is maintained by Costilla County. I tried calling their Sheriff's office but got only a voicemail message. So, I called their Bridge and Road Department and the call would not go through. That is how things role here.

I've noticed that in Colorado they are remarkably backwards in road safety. Of course this was 40 years ago. They were way behind Texas in every way. No weight limits on the back road bridges, no safety rails on obviously dangerous highways. A week after we were there a highway crew pushed a bolder off on top of a van with a vacationing family. Crossing into NM you saw noticeable improvements. Even the single lane wooden bridges over the little creek going into Cut and Shoot was marked 17k pounds, which I always thought was excessive. At the time, Cut and Shoot had a population of less than 50.
