If you express your opinion, I have no judgment or criticism to offer. I like hearing others opinions and thoughts on things. There are many areas that our opinions and experiences overlap beyond just music. However, I don’t find there’s much common ground for conversations that involve people’s views on what “others” or “everyone/no one” think. That approach of expression is usually used to assert credibility as to why someone else is wrong. No actual conversation takes place in that space. I have nothing against you, in fact I’ve enjoyed most of our conversations over the past few years. I just am getting the impression that you don’t actually want to engage with me in conversation for whatever reason and that’s totally fine. Sorry, I see what you are saying. There is nothing that could convince me of the quality of that music and since you like it. I should have just shut up. I will try to do better. You probably hear things differently from me. No problem. We're a lot alike.

I take my Sonic Youth in fits and starts. turbocat, you know Nels Cline was a big fan, right? Yes, many big musicians have listed them as an inspiration. I could hear their influence in Wilco especially when I saw them live in the 2006-2012 range. It didn’t show up as strongly in their studio work, but it’s there. I have never been one to listen to Sonic Youth for more than a few songs or occasional album, but I can’t help but appreciate that they brought a fundamentally different structure to music and pulled it off. I often think of them as one of those groups that while never attaining widespread mainstream success, influenced so many other musicians that were wildly popularly successful. The classic example being The Velvet Underground, also the Butthole Surfers come to mind.

I saw Wilco in concert three times. I can never remember years of things, but the first one was right after Ghost came out. The other two followed a couple years after, each. That first one, they all had just come down with the flu and went into that whole altered state thing you sometimes hit when you're exhausted and sick.

No problem. I suppose that illustrates exactly what I’m saying. I’m not trying to convince anyone of anything, musically or otherwise. I don’t have an agenda here. Even just on this What Are You Listening To thread, I check out what people are listening to that I’m not familiar with. Some I like and find new things to check out. Sometimes not. It’s not that serious. If someone likes or doesn’t like something, cool, I don’t feel the need to make offhand personal slams like “nobody likes that” and similar statements. That wouldn’t be me expressing my opinion. That would be more akin to trolling. Saying things in a way to get a response. Sorry I didn’t feel like stepping over it this time. By the way, I grew up listening to Glenn Miller, lots of big bands in fact, Louis Armstrong and many others. I still have many of those 78’s. I’m quite into classical as well. Either way, no issue with me, you’re you however you are and that’s fine. I’ll drop it here.

I prefer to escape into music and enjoy all kinds but some only a few songs at a time. There was a time when I disliked ELO but at this point in time I think they are awesome. I can also tune out the singer and focus on the lyrics a few days back I mentioned Kris Kristofferson can't sing but he writes great songs. I don't base my views on how many records are sold. Ican sit down with a stack of Nat king Cole records and be happy all day the Glenn Miller big band era not so much. This more about listing to something you have not heard and maybe finding something you do.

I've been hopping around on what I listen to because my system has been apart for several months and I get what I can off the radio and different streaming services. I run into times when SiriusXM has songs I don't like on all my presets and I start to check out new channels. A lot of times I hear stuff that I haven't heard in many years, or at all.
This is one I always liked.

Thanks for the reply Ronv69. I certainly might have overreacted myself. You have seemed a bit edgy (more than usual 😜) in our conversations recently, which has struck me as odd, I can’t actually remember us having any notable disagreements in the past. If anything is going difficult for you, I truly hope it gets better.

After listening to some tracks, I sometimes let the software pick the next ones for a while. Sometimes it does a really good job of theme and variation. Sometimes . . . not.

I would avoid the commercials that way… Sometimes I hear new music I actually like on the radio that I probably wouldn’t encounter otherwise though. Not saying that happens a lot, but sometimes.

For a long time over the airwaives a program stated that the show could be streamed on the Oddysey network… I kept searching and for the longest time, I could not find it. For whatever reason, someone spelled it out as audacy once. I could never figure out why they did not automatically know that spelling it might be a good idea.
