The stripper my brother used to date had this as her signature song. She almost ruined it for me.

Saw Johnny Winter perform this from 6 feet away. I knew the story, sort of, but it's better straight from the horses mouth.

Sorry, but to me, that's the worst cover ever, of any song. Leon Russell is probably spinning. Maybe not. Never could tell about him.
Here is the original.
Edit, my son actually likes it, but he still prefers The Carpenters.

Karen Carpenter and Momma Cass would both still be alive if Cass had shared a bite of the ham sandwich.

Sung by many but not near as beautiful as this version.

Sung by many but not near as beautiful as this version. Well, you just ruined the one Madonna song I liked. But Karen surely didn't need all that multi voicing. When I ran the sound board, I tried to teach the other guys how to use that box. The one we had added up to 9 voices. I would let them listen to what adding 2 did and what 9 did. The 9 sounded so bad that they were afraid to use it at all.

I loved Karen Carpenter and hearing most of her songs instantly takes me back to Sunday afternoons in the ‘70’s. Unfortunately that’s often a somewhat depressing thing.
Another Sonic Youth song, but not a cover, the song is called Tunic, (Song For Karen)

Edit, my son actually likes it, but he still prefers The Carpenters. Yeah, that version captures a bit more of the actual feelings behind the lyrics than the Carpenters version. I felt like Karen picked a lot of what she sang based on some dark undertones in the lyrics that may have been her way of expressing where she was really at in a somewhat slight handed way, she didn’t sing them in a way that they were obviously the point of the song though, the listener had to be open to hearing what was actually being said. Sonic Youth completely captured what the song was actually about, a sad mental and emotional breakdown. They weren’t trying to make a catchy, fun to listen to version. I can’t think of any cover that did that better.

Kinda makes it pointless to try to have a normal conversation with you. Sorry I attempted, I won’t bother in the future.

Sorry I attempted, I won’t bother in the future. Sorry, I didn't mean to give that impression. I guess I'm going by sales. People vote with their pocketbooks. I think they are awful, but that's just my opinion. I understand that others hear things differently. I also thought the Sinead version was pretty bad, but it had some worth. You are welcome to criticize anything I listen to. Not trying to be obstinate. I just really hated those guys. The very fact that I see them mentioned in several places means that a lot of other people like them. That's fine. I'm in a minority because I can't stand Taylor Swift either. I don't think she is bad or untalented, just boring.

I like hearing others opinions and thoughts on things. There are many areas that our opinions and experiences overlap beyond just music. However, I don’t find there’s much common ground for conversations that involve people’s views on what “others” or “everyone/no one” think. That approach of expression is usually used to assert credibility as to why someone else is wrong. No actual conversation takes place in that space. I have nothing against you, in fact I’ve enjoyed most of our conversations over the past few years. I just am getting the impression that you don’t actually want to engage with me in conversation for whatever reason and that’s totally fine.

I am from the previous generation. I really liked Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman, Broadway and classical before 60s rock happened. I could never get into Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, etc. I never heard anything I liked in the whole punk, grunge, garage band stuff. They sold a lot of records. So did the rap guys. I knew a bunch of rappers in Houston. They were my customers and I was entertained in their suites. I never told them what I thought of their music and thankfully they didn't ask. They were millionaires back when that was a lot of money. I still can't believe that stuff is allowed to be broadcast. But it's takes all kinds I hear.

There is nothing that could convince me of the quality of that music and since you like it. I should have just shut up. I will try to do better. You probably hear things differently from me. No problem.
