In '64 the Scout was equipped with a 4 cylinder, overhead valve engine mated to a three speed transmission. The locking hubs in front were very finicky often requiring driving in reverse to lock. Good little truck. We hauled a horse trailer on the highways with it. People underestimate little 4 cylinder engines with low gears. My 96 horsepower Isuzu Trooper hauled my 18' Searay 90 miles one way to the lake every weekend at 90mph. The V8 was overkill in the Scout. Not sure of the displacement of the old Scout 4 banger. It was not small. It sure did the job. Same problem with the old Jeeps. The Hurricane Four was sufficient. The Six was good but the V-8s were too much power.

Cripes. How long will it take? You got other arrangements? Hard to say. My appointment with the Ford Dealer Service Dept is for next Thursday. Once they have the parts, it should take all that long. I might be able drive my old Landcruiser into Taos for the MD appointments the following week. No windshield wipers owing to the failure of a cheap plastic part no longer available. I might be able to work a McGiver Fix on it. Can they get the parts? I would not drop it off if they can not get all the parts!

They will not know which parts until they examine it.

Home with truck. Problem not as complicated as I feared from the initial inspection. Also not as costly. Repaired same day does not happen often but the dealer service department was not busy. Of course, I have not tried to drive in 4 wheel drive yet....

Whoa, whoa. His sex life is not relevant here. No sex, again. It was a carburetor that, when you stepped on it, all the vacuum went away. Took a big, hungry engine not to bog. The last one was a ‘69 that I put a 351 Windsor in. That was a very good improvement. I wish I had one today 😥

It sure would run through, as long as you eased your foot down.

Built for hauling a cattle trailer up our mountain roads. Edlebrock 650 4-barrel carb. It did the job.

The quadrapukes are rated to 800 CFM just attack the secondary needles with a welding tip cleaner. I never could understand the love affair with Holly with their leaking fuel bowls and blown power valves. The carter AFB was always cheaper and better than than any Holley and like the quadrapuke set it and forget it.

The carter AFB was always cheaper and better than than any Holley and like the quadrapuke set it and forget it. I had a lot of Holleys from 350cfm 2 barrels to 850 double pumpers. I never had any problems with them that weren't of my own making. My Hemi had 2 AFB carbs off of 1966 Cadillacs. Took a while to find them in the junkyard. I knew a Nascar mechanic who set them up for me. I never touched them. I also had an AFB on my 67 Buick 350. I have to agree that they were the best carbs I ever used.

I have fond memories of my parents 1965 Caddy Deville coming in at 23ft long and causing me to miss the first run of Jaws because it needed a water pump.

I have fond memories of my parents 1965 Caddy Deville coming in at 23ft long and causing me to miss the first run of Jaws because it needed a water pump. When I worked for my brother, from age 14 through 21, his secretary had a 65 Cadillac that my brother would rent from her when we didn't have enough company cars. That thing would cruise at 125 mph for hours at a time with 6 men and 300 pounds of equipment in the trunk. It got great gas mileage too. If I had the money, I would have one fully restored and drive it every day.

Bought this for wife in 1972, she loved it, cruised at 120 mph all day, That was the 525 engine I believe. Good cars. I worked with a guy who drove one, a yellow convertible with a white top. His wife's boss gave it to his wife, but she didn't like to drive it.

I had good luck with an Edlebrock 650 cfm on a truck with a stroked 350. It seems like Edelbrock carbs were kind of new back when I was hot rodding. I remember thinking they were copies of the standard Holley. Had a lot of their intake manifolds, including on my Hemi. I had an Offenhauser dual plane on my 73 Ford pickup. That intake made the biggest difference in that engine. Plus, I liked the Offy on the Ford because of their long history together. On my short lived 40 Ford coupe project I had a pair of Offy heads that I never got to put on. And an Offy 3 duce intake. Sigh. So many cars, so little time. (and money)

Smoother and quieter than a Rolls Royce. My brother dated a stripper that had a red 65 convertible with the 427 and a 4 speed. I was only 15 so you can imagine how much I lusted after that car. Forget about the stripper. And what did those cars cost? $3600?

If I remember right in the 3000$ range, mine had a factory Hurst 4 speed on the floor and a glass enclosure for the 2 headlights that was experimental.
