Just observing responses in other threads, it seems as though there are quite a few people who have dozens upon dozens of pipes, yet only use a fraction.
I have just five pipes right now. I use those same five pipes weekly. This set up works fine...how about you?

I'm probably dancing between 40 and 50 pipes. Typically I use 8 or 10 consistently. However much of it depends on what type of blend I'm smoking and how long I want to smoke. I have a few 2 hour bowls that I almost never smoke. I have wide bowls that I reserve for English, which are winter smokes for me.

I should do an approximate count one of these days. My guess is around 100 pipes, not counting Cobs, with about 20 in actual use. More often than not, I reach for a Cob even with many briar options.

I've got right around 110 pipes. I smoke about 50 of them often enough to remember when I last smoked them, I'd say. Something like 12-15 of the others are pipes I'll probably never smoke again because I just didn't turn out to like them for one reason or another. Too heavy. Uncomfortable for some other reason. Don't smoke well. Whatever. The rest are just pipes I don't like nearly as well as the ones I do smoke. I'll revisit them at some point, or maybe sell them off. I dunno.

53 total pipes, smoke ALL in rotations of 10-11, same method since around 1998. Each one gets smoked pretty much same amount over the course of a year

I really don’t know how many pipes I have any more. But it’s a lot. Over two hundred that I like for sure. I only ever smoke from a selection of about eight. That selection hasn’t changed a lot in many months.
There are times when I feel nostalgic for the days when I was young and poor and only had one nice pipe and a few cobs. The simplicity of it was nice in a way. While I could replicate that situation, except for the young part, I’ll stick with things the way they are. But sometimes a lot of pipes can seem like a chore.

There is a freedom that comes from not having too many possessions, and I sorely miss that freedom. I'm about to start liquidating stuff wholesale.

I have less than twenty pipes including four cobs and smoke eight of the briars and mostly two of the cobs.

If you only ever smoke 8 of them, how big a chore can it be? It’s more the idea that when I had one nice pipe and some cobs, I didn’t think about which pipe to use. I was happy having my regular pipe. I didn’t think about some I have that I need to clean up and wax, or try to figure out which box had a pipe that I was thinking about using, or arguing with myself about using a new pipe if I don’t think I’ll stick with it as a regular, or feel like I should be paying more attention to the other pipes I have since I have them, or be worried about how they’re stored, if they are potentially being damaged stacked in boxes, or the fact that I have them, but I’m not really enjoying them, which seems wrong, or… Maybe these things never cross your mind, but for me, it can take some of the fun of owning a lot of pipes out of it. There are many times all of these seem like fun, but there are times they can seem like work as well to me.

Oh. I thought you meant cleaning them or organizing them or something. Just seemed like if you only ever smoked the same 8 pipes, none of that would be an issue. No, I can't say I ever feel guilty about owning pipes I don't smoke. They're just relationships that didn't work out. No more pipe smokers than there are, anymore, I don't feel like I'm taking them away from someone who would appreciate them more, or anything like that. If someone saw one of them and really liked it, I'd happily give it to them, but I've noticed pipe smokers tend not to like getting a gift like that if they can't give you something back.

I am somewhere over 100 pipes, I tend to smoke a handful because with the time constraints and the life I am living, I do not give the other pipes the time of day, not because they are bad smokers more because I know which ones are definitely good smokers and I want to clean my smokers as needed.
Kind of the way with guns...my striker fired ones are dependable, easier maintained when filed stripping and lubricating, so that is what I grab for a quick range session....1911, and rifles not so much they are therefore probably feeling neglected, but it is not their fault.

I smoke em all. About 100, bunched in two separate locations. When I’m hitting the Dunhills, i’m inland.
Now, my problem is keeping them all cleaned up. I smoke them I try to keep them reasonably clean. I love them all or they’d be in the bin.

Cobs included, it's closer to 130.

Over the course of a year, I'd say that about half get smoked. Some, very frequently, others only once or twice. I need to fix that. This hasn't stopped me from buying or making more.

I'm three years in and I've got 31 in total, I smoke them all, but I think around the 30 mark is still manageable re: rotation. Scary thing is, it's not that long ago I remember telling myself that seven was the perfect number, 'one for each day of the week'. Pipes are quickly becoming like guitars for me; "how many do you really need?" > "just one more!" 😂

Keep in mind that how often you smoke really has an impact in terms of how this question is answered. Weekend or once day smokers are on a different scale than someone like me who smokes 4 to 6 bowls on a typical day. I’ve got 130 to 140 pipes in the smoking collection. Probably 30 to 40 of those see more use than the others. About every three months, I keep track and smoke through all of them. At the rate I smoke, it takes 3 to 4 weeks to complete a full round through the smoking collection.

Jim's got close to a thousand pipes last time I spoke to him, but he only smokes 30 or 40 on a regular basis. And that's at a rate of 13 to 16 pipes a day.

I don’t smoke much at home anymore but at the cabin, i have 36 pipes and probably smoke 4 of them when I am there. Granted, if I lived there, I would likely use more

Working 99% from home with no smoking in the house makes it tough. When I go to the office, i try to bring a pipe with me to smoke on the way to the train station. I need to make more time to relax with the pipe

My wife loves the smell of a pipe as she grew up around her Dad who chain smoked one pipe.

“ I’ve worked out of a home office since 1998 and can smoke in the house.”
A true pioneer in the trend!
I tried that out with my boss… I need a Star Trek type unit to send the product to other regions.
