Good evening. Smoking yet more Union Square, this time in a Savinelli billiard.
Starting late afternoon lines of storms have been brushing by the shore. The sky is a bright pink now, as the final push of dark clouds loom to the northwest. We’re under a severe warning, but I think we’ll duck out of the worst of this last line of storms.
An osprey is having its dinner on a piling not far from my window, and I had to pull the dogs back from bothering a turtle laying her eggs in the sand on our after dinner walk. If there weren’t so many biting flies, I’d like it around here in summer. Have a good night all.

Just got the family settled in. Smoking some pirate kake in my savinelli 606ks. Sipping on a vanilla chia tea with tsp of honey. Watching a show called black sails.

It’s July where I am, but I guess it’s still June out west. I’m smoking GH Rum Flake in a vintage Stanwell HCA.

I will most likely watch it completely, which isn't a commonality for me lol.

maybe thats why when I smoked this mixture 79 I feel the urge to get a red silk velvet bathrobe and a captains hat so did hugh 🤔🤣 The thing is that everything you smoke in that pipe from here forward will taste like M79. I don't think anything will remove that ghost. Extreme hyperbole and untrue. Mixture 79 is just some anise and whiskey and molasses. It’s just like smoking Orlik Dark Strong Kentucky or any other licorice heavy blend. Just as I can smoke Ennerdale flake in a straight VA pipe for 10 bowls in a row and a few bowls of something like Union Square or FVF and there won’t be a ghost of Ennerdale or Lakeland. Ghosting is the worst from Latakia smoked a lot in one pipe. Edit: Wrong month, of course. Next post in July.

My wife made me throw it out because it made the house smell like mothballs. I wish all my pipes had a lat ghost.

Back over 30 years ago, Mixture 79 used to contain musk and another proprietary flavor but anything the past 15+ years it’s just anise, whiskey molasses.
I have about a pound of it left here and it just smells like delicious licorice and molasses, it smells absolutely like nothing else. Smells like an old fashioned grandma’s cookies.
The base tobacco mixture Sutliff uses for it is Heine’s blend, with the applied casings/toppings.
