Happy Friday! Started the day with a couple bowls of Haunted Bookshop in the Friday cob and coffee on the front porch. It's a cool, overcast and very breezy 65 degrees here. Nothing planned until later on.

Watered the garden boxes, pots and baskets. Back on the back porch with some Friar's Bayou in the barrel-shaped meerschaum.

Good Afternoon! It's 72° out here on the deck with dark clouds passing overhead but no rain so far today. I made the supermarket run earlier and put a load of laundry in the washing machine. My spine is hurting, so I'm taking it easy. Just lit up some Limerick Flake in the 1951 Dunhill lovat and I noticed a tiny hole in the bowl that I've never seen before. I'm wondering if it's from an old repair fill that's finally fallen out. A glass of cold water accompanies.

Either one would be pretty surprising, but a hole would be downright alarming. Take care of that back.

The pipe bowl thickness indicates the pipe had been consistently reamed over the decades and that could be the reason for the hole. This location would be the thinnest point of the bowl. The hole could have been filled at some point and the fill has just now fallen out. I can't complain too much, though...it was a gift.

I am the same vintage and I hate for people to go poking around inside. I hope you find this useful. 😀

If it goes all the way through, it couldn't be just regular putty. It wouldn't take the heat of being directly exposed in the chamber.

Pipe mud. Cigar ash mixed with water. Some people add egg white.

Or perhaps a tiny flaw that just opened up.

Burn outs are typically repaired by inserting a briar plug and refinishing.

Alright, jonmc75. It's been a week since you reported you were feeling poorly. It's long past time for you to check in with your status. I'll not have this unaccountable malingering. You've established yourself as a member in good standing here; you must check in within a reasonable interval. It's in the by-laws.

Good Saturday Morning! It's 53° with a clear sky here at first light. Just some laundry to do this afternoon and I'm sure that my wife will come up with a few things that'll interfere with my goofing off time. Getting the smoking day going with a bowl of HH Pure VA Flake in the Peterson Rosslare 106 smooth billiard and there's a fresh travel mugga coffee tucked underneath my jacket. Have a great weekend everybody!

Good Morning Again! It's still 53° here with an almost clear sky and sunshine streaming through the neighborhood trees. Just lit up a bowl of Wessex Brown VA Flake in the Pete smooth billiard while occasionally sipping my coffee. Time to check the headline news.

Good morning all. Near perfect weather here on the pool deck. Everyone is fed and I’m lighting up a bowl of Sun Bear ‘22 in my Peterson Dublin. I started making no knead bread, and have a loaf doing its second rise on the kitchen counter. It’ll be ready to toss in the oven just about the time I finish this pipe. I hope you all have a good one!
