Just finished a bowl of Amphora Burley in El Ged Man what a great blend. It's so cool that Amphora is high quality stuff now. I hope the Scandinavians don't screw it up. (they will) I went through a pouch of that stuff like Grant went through Richmond; it's really special, and perfect for kicking back with your favorite beverage , as the world just drifts on by.

Samuel Gawith Squadron Leader 2012 in a MM Calabash.
This is a great blend for those that would not smoke an English blend in warm weather. With the Turkish leaf, dark and bright Virginia's, the Latakia takes a backseat....it is still there, but more as a condiment. With 12 years of age, even more so.
The wife normally does not like English blends and commented that it smelt pleasant.

Try Hearth & Home Midtown Series Prince Andrew as a better alternative. Only available from P&C. I will have to give it a try. I see they have a tub of each for a deal price on P&C You don’t have to buy the whole tub. You can buy the match blend from Sutliff.

I’m smoking 2/23 C&D The Beast in a Mark Twain cob w/ a 14k gold-fill band and large black/orange swirl fishtail Forever stem. The Beast manages to smell just like manure and taste like strong chocolatey, fruity, peppery Perique.

I could not do it, but since you mention it, that really nails it.

I smoked some of that at my pipe club last week and it was way better than I thought it was gonna be. Only thing is after reading the labeling it had me thinking of the crazy writings of Allister Crowley and him smoking something like that. 🤣

I think I prefer burley blends. The reference to Grant made me chuckle I'm gonna have to try it now if it went that quick 😂

I really enjoy the flavor of PA I could smoke it all day. Also PA was a favorite of my grandpa so the smell is comforting and reminiscent to me.

I’ve only smoked much older 1970’s Prince Albert and their modern cherry vanilla blends, but I would just call their match blends (Sutliff) in the same wheelhouse. Some of them are better than the originals, like Edgeworth Ready Rubbed match.

I tried lanes ready rubbed match an I was given an ounce of it and it went fast I like that one alot so I will be trying the sutliff match on my next order.

Also PA was a favorite of my grandpa so the smell is comforting and reminiscent to me. For PA (and Carter Hall), I get an unpleasant strong chemical taste when lighting and for the first few puffs. That does not happen with the alternatives such as Prince Andrew, Chatham Manor or the Match blends. Also, all the alternatives are made with better quality tobacco. Some why spend as much or more for PA? That said, we each have our own individual tastes and each is valid. What I love, someone else will hate. What I hate, someone else will love. The beauty of pipe smoking is that no one is wrong.

Zarnicky hoping Haunted Bookshop not haunting I meaning ghosting your pipe. Can one have a ghosted palate? What you eat before you smoke a pipe can I think, affect the taste of the tobacco. There are of course ways dealing with a ghosted pipe. I believe it can. Usually with something I drink. I don't think OJ and a pipe would be too pleasant, at least for me.

Good Morning! It's 68° and humid with a cloudy sky here at dawn and everything is wet from yesterday's storm. This afternoon I have to make a pharmacy run and finally get to Home Depot. Starting off the smoking day with a bowl of HH Pure VA Flake in the Savinelli Venere 128 rusticated billiard and there's a fresh travel mugga coffee on the workshop tobacco table. Have a good one everybody!
