Christopher Hibbert’s THE FRENCH REVOLUTION. From background to the rise of Napoleon. Fascinating stuff so far, and very well-written.

Finished THE FRENCH REVOLUTION, which I highly recommend. Now starting Nathaniel Philbrick’s MAYFLOWER: VOYAGE, COMMUNITY, WAR. The so-called Pilgrims have never interested me very much, but I look forward to getting to know them a little better, even if I wind up not liking them very much.

Reading an old horror classic, Ghost Story by Peter Straub. Took me a while to get into it and am now enjoying it.

He's absolutely done with Uthred. He is going back to Sharpe. Seriously? Yes... love Sharpe but how’s he going to continue? His last novel had Sharpe and Harper meeting Napoleon in Elbe. The last movie/tv episode had Sharpe at Waterloo. Hmmm.... I have written to Cornwell about returning Obadiah Hakeswell in future Sharpe series. My favorite villain. He replied that I will have to wait and see. Sharpe would be around 40 years old on Elbe. Plenty time left for more adventures.

And I've worked for people like that. What book was it where the huge Janissaries drove nails into the heads of the condemned prisoners with their fists?

Learned that there is a difference between Pilgrims and Puritans. Don’t much care for either, still.

Just heard about the passing of John le Carre last night. Although not a major fan, I did enjoy some of his works. May be time to reread “Tailor of Panama” and “The Spy who came in from the Cold.”

His last work was a rambling mis match, very disappointed as I loved his earlier works, Smiley was a great character. RIP!

There are not many books so smoke inducing as SOUTH!, The Story of Shackleton's Last Expedition. I have read it a few times now and am currently just perusing. Clutching a warm large bowled Neerup churchwarden burning Escudo De Lux.

During my last deployment, one of my soldiers brought the entire Sharpe DVD series with him. Being a Sharpe fan, needless to say, we watched the entire series during our Friday maintenance days. It took a while but certainly gave us something to look forward to.
