During my last deployment, one of my soldiers brought the entire Sharpe DVD series with him. Being a Sharpe fan, needless to say, we watched the entire series during our Friday maintenance days. It took a while but certainly gave us something to look forward to. And be glad you didn't have to fight Napoleon! The French Army was to be feared in them ole days. They just kept marching forward in a solid mass chanting "Vive Le Emperor". Note: Just from what I read. I was not there.

I don't want to kill any population, but there are individuals who would make the world a better place by their absence. I guess they are good for building character. 🤷♂️🤔😜🤠

Helped a Frech Marine out if a bad jam, 3 Arabs were slicing him up good. Got them off him, took my jumper and tied his guts back in, peacoat was slashed pretty good, he went to the hospital, I was in big trouble reported on gang plank with bloody Tshirt, no cap, went on report. Next morning a French Marine Colonel took me to the hospital , my man made it. He hugged me, those French always got to hug you, gave me his cap.! If I find the Cap picture I'll post it.!

I've never bought into the jokes about the French as "surrender monkeys." Bad generals they had in-plenty. (So did the Brits, and even the US in the early years of WW2.) But the French fighting man is as good as any, and better than most.

Finishing up THE LAST INVESTIGATION by Gaeton Fonzi. The author was an investigator with bot Senate and House Assassination Committees. He knows his subject and in over 700 pages of detailed, exhaustive, well-written narrative makes explicit the betrayals of truth in all the so-called "thorough investigations." Compelling and very disturbing reading. Don't read this if you want to maintain any sense of trust in government and, most specifically, our intelligence apparatti.

Compelling and very disturbing reading. Don't read this if you want to maintain any sense of trust in government and, most specifically, our intelligence apparatti. I have lost all trust in our government, after watching the last two directors of the FBI including the current one. The corruption runs deep, and if they want to destroy an individual, there isn’t much you can do about it.

I took a brief recess from MAYFLOWER to read THE LAST INVESTIGATION, about the JFK assassination investigations. Just now returned and finished the earlier book.
The old saw about the Pilgrims first falling on their knees and then falling on the Indians is a distortion of facts. The peace between the Pilgrims and the Indians lasted 50 years. Until the son of Massasoit, Philip, and the sons of the original Pilgrims, plus the later arriving Puritans, went to war in one of the bloodiest and costliest Indian/White wars in our history. That war began the systematic ‘ethnic cleansing’ of New England of the Indians. Captives from the war— men, women, and children— were sold by the white settlers into Caribbean slavery, a fact often overlooked by the estimated 35 million American descendants of the original Mayflower passengers. Didn’t much like the Pilgrims, or the Puritans (they were different), from the start and liked them a little less at the end. 1620 is fraught with ominous ambiguity.

Just started American gods by Neil gaimen. It’s been years since I read it so it’s like reading a new book I don’t remember anything of it.
