Hey Dan ... nice to see you around! I'm up to about 5 pounds of that black, smokey, 1997 goodness!

Most pipe tobacco has some kind of flavoring added to it, so be aware of that. If you are thinking about a tobacco rauchbier, consider carefully. The tobacco will have to smoulder at a low temp if you want to try and capture the aroma. Perhaps aged Latakia, like this. Yep. There would not be high temps involved. Could be done seperately from the malt roasting. Start off with a test firkin so as not to waste too much in case it doesn't turn out good. Latakia could work. I was thinking a vaper blend might work. Aged Virginia maybe, or a dark twist perhaps? How about a Lakeland IPA? Nah!

I like the occasional soda as well. Being from NJ I've grown up with Stewart's. My favorites are Cream, Root and Wishniak (cherry).

I went from breastfeeding to those small glass bottles of Coke back in the early 60's, haven't been able to kick them yet.

Instead of searching them out in stores, you can order any of the hard to find cases of sodas online for decent prices.

The recently released Dr Pepper 10 is very good and has replaced Dr Pepper regular diet soda. It has less of an aftertaste and is a bit cola like. My regular choice is cola and I buy whatever is on sale. I like RC, but the diet version with caffeine, doesn't show up in this market very often.

This Fresca is pairing particularly well with my Black House. Also, where are my PA folks? Birch Beer! In the Army, I found that most people outside of PA Dutch country were clueless as to it's existence.

Sodas. Partial to Mexican Coke in the bottle. Really makes a difference. I guess if you need a sugar fix, better the real stuff than high fructose corn syrup. I really drink very little if any of it anymore. Kind of bloats me which is not unusual. There was a ginger ale made down in the Carolinas I found a number of years ago. It was offered in two strengths. The really hot was excellent. The brand of the soda escapes me. That ginger ale is Blenheims and they have three strengths. A specialty food store has it here in Richmond Va. It's great with Bourbon!

Hey - is there such as thing as a cola aro? That sound like it would work. If not, I have some cola syrup and may experiment....

It would be interesting if one could find a natural way of imparting a cola-like flavour. We need someone skilled in molecular gastronomy. I can imagine anise, vanilla, and cinnamon being close. Add prune for a Dr Pepper note... We should probably just kill this project now. haha

I live about ten minutes away from "Pops" on Rt66. They have hundreds of different cream sodas. So many that I wont go in there, too overwhelming.I spend too much time trying to decide, I end up leaving and heading for a coffee shop.

I like the Blenheim Ginger Ale. It is very rich and genuine; reminds me of the Red Rock ginger ale that we could buy when I was a kid. It had so much ginger in it that it was spicy hot!

Hubby grew up near Wilkes-Barre, PA, when we were dating he took me out to where he grew up to meet his Mom and Grandma, and was driving me around showing all his stomping grounds. We stopped at a little Mom & Pop store and he bought me a Birch Beer. Been hooked ever since, though I prefer White Birch About an hour north of us there is an Amish bulk store and we can pick up Kuntz White Birch Beer.

Back when I used to travel around and setup/maintain the networks for Sheetz stores, I had stopped at the huge one south of Buchannon called Bulk Foods with my friend/coworker on a couple occasions. Always a good diversion. It was like a strange looking mini-mall type place. Is that the one?

I think it is called Bulk Foods, it is right off I-79 at Flatwoods. There is a pretty good Chinese buffet there too It's a strip mall kind of thing.

I find Virgil's Root Beer to be fantastic with Burley forward bkends. Vanilla coke is quite good too. But generally it'll be water, club soda, coffee, or unsweetened ice tea.
