The Wife and I are going to the 2019 Chicagoland pipe show! The room is reserved and I've registered for the UPCA Slow Smoke Contest.
Slow smoke contest?
When I was a young teenager, I'd sit with my Pop to keep him company (As a smoker he was banished from our family room) He watched much more interesting TV shows than my parents allowed & at around 14yo he allowed me to smoke (that's a funny story in itself)
One TV show that I remember was a pipe smoking contest. A British show with a commentator that sounded a lot like the guy who narrated the snooker Pot Black show in hushed tones. Contestants were given X amount of matches. My memory is a bit vague but I think that after the true light, contestants were not permitted to light again. As a kid it was about as exciting as watching paint dry.
Times have certainly changed since then.

Yesterday I got some of the tobacco which will be used in the slow smoke contest at the Chicago pipe show. Now I can experiment with it.

I did 38 min 20 sec. The best was a Danish woman with one hour 1 minuit and some seconds.Still got this...

The Wife and I had a great time in Saint Charles, Il. While I roamed around the Chicago Pipe Show she stayed in the motel and watched TV and did her craft stuff. We went to The Olive Gardens and a Chinese restaurant while there. I had a great time at the show. I saw thousands of pipe and tried a couple new to me tobaccos. The Best part was meeting new people and seeing others I'd met at earlier shows. I came home with eight new pipes, ranging in price from free to $200. I got an Aston Brindle poker, a Northern Briars Rox cut Jade Lovat, a Crappy Pipes stack billiard, a RNA $5 unmarked billiard, a Rattray's Fachen bent apple nose warmer, a Free Algerian billiard, a magnum sized Crappy Pipes straight bulldog and lastly the Amerelli Old Root bulldog, from the Slow Smoke Contest. Because I'd lost my U.S. Army Zippo, I got a red Chicago Pipe Collectors Club Zippo.

Smoking Pipes dot Com has a 10% off sale this weekend. I got an unsmoked previously owned Geppetto partially rusticated bent billiard stack. I'd seen a similar pipe in Springfield MO. in like 2002. I've wanted one ever since. I'll now have one.

Bird and dog were having some fun...some folks say that they don't have any sense...seems to me that the persons who say that should be looking in the mirror.
