My wife has come around. She doesn't bother me anymore about it and has even bought me pipe tobacco and cigars. How about your spouse?

My wife is ok with it. Much more so than with cigars. I never have cigars in the house, except in my basement smoking room. Pipes are ok if I am passing through the house. I don't generally smoke them in the rest of the house because it aggravates my daughter's asthma. My wife likes the aroma of most of what I smoke except heavy latakia blends.

Ha Ha! If I still had one she wouldn't have much choice, besides I smoke outside on the porch, sometimes in my shop and never in my truck. Now if she wanted to buy me Pipes and Tobacco I'd be okay with that, although one never has.

Mine gave up bothering me about it 30 years ago. Been smoking pipes for 47 years so it is who I am.

My wife doesn't mind.....she knows I enjoy smoking my pipes and since I dont drink..gamble..do drugs..she encourages me to sit outside when I have free time and enjoy myself with a pipe and a book..smoking outside is my choice ..She really has no clue or care about me trying to concoct some kind of blend on the kitchen table but she does enjoy sitting with me at night while I have a smoke.

Well, I am in a unique position because I'm the woman! Lol. Hubby was not too keen on me starting to smoke a pipe. He was concerned about health issues related to smoking. But he's talked a lot to the guys in the pipe club and he now realizes that it is not like smoking cigarettes. He doesn't let me smoke in the house unless I can have the window open and the fan in the window sucking the smoke out (and I burn a smoker's candle too) About a month ago he wanted to give pipe smoking a try, but so far we haven't found a tobacco he likes. The first couple bowls he said tasted like plastic. The guy at the B&M gave us a tobacco that hubby said didn't have a plastic taste to it, but he didn't really like the taste either. So, we are still on the search for something he likes.

M'lady is very supportive. She's bought me pipes and tobaccos. She was 19 when we got married, and was conducting anti-smoking clinics at her church. When we decided to marry, I told her I only had one requirement. I said I had been smoking a pipe since I was 13, and smoking in the house since I was 16. I said "I'm not going to be one of those guys who goes outside to smoke his pipe while holding a umbrella in the rain. I smoke in my house" I said if she could handle that, we'd never have a problem. She said, "Okay", and we've never had a problem. July 2 will be our 28th wedding anniversary.

Mine is very supportive, and usually comes over and gives me a kiss during the smoke.

Mine is very supportive. Even bought me a pipe, a Savinelli Sun Set 315KS stamped hand made on shank. She did have serious guidance from johnlawitzke She does tease me about the amount of pipes and baccy I have on occasion, I can smoke in the garage, not in the house which is fine. Garage is heated so no issues smoking in winter/bad weather.

Don't have one so I can't say. The fact is that I have smoked for 30 years and don't intend to stop. If the day should ever come I consider getting married, it's just something that will have to be accepted.

I'll admit that I sort of "blindsided" my wife. When we met, I was in a cigar phase and only on occasion because I was doing a lot of endurance racing (Mt. Bike) at the time. So, when I gave up racing and got back into full swing with the smoking, she kind of wondered "where is this coming from"! LOL Since then, she has accepted it more and more and even purchased several nice accessories for me. It's never going to be something she enjoys but rarely chastises me for it.

My wife wouldn't have a problem with it, she smoked cigarettes back in the day...30+ years ago. But she contracted Valley fever when we moved to the southwest, a spore attatched to her lung and a misdiagnosis by a quack put her on antibiotics, which actually feeds the problem. She ended up with a 2 inch hole in her lung as a result...she made a pretty decent recovery, but out of respect I don't smoke in the home...on occasion I do sit in the kitchen with the sliding door cracked and a fan to exhaust it....I could smoke in the house and she wouldn't complain though. I have worse habits that make smoking the least of my offensive behaviors.

I see the replies run from smoking out side, in the garage or basement. Others smoke as they like where they like. I'm one of the latter. Wife is an ex-smoker, but is ok with my smoking. I smoke in the house with either the heat or A/C as needed. If I smoke on the porch it's because I want to.

Whenever I see a thread like this, I realize just how lucky I am. My wife's father chain smoked a pipe and her favorite uncle smoked cigars. She likes the smell of both it brings back fond memories. So, pipes and cigars are allowed in the house, but cigarettes must be outside. However, on the now extremely rare occasion that I smoke a cigar, I smoke it outside as I dislike the after smell of a cigar that lingers in the house for a day.

...married 38 years...never had an issue with smoking my pipes and occasional cigar wherever I wish...She's bought several pipes over the years for me...the only rooms in the house I don't smoke in were/are my children's rooms...

As long as I change into fresh clothes after a smoke she's ok with it, buys me ash trays, once a nice smoking cart, but doesn't like the smell of my Favorite Nitecap. Loves to buy jars for my tobbaco, so I'm lucky, smoke in the house also, mostly in my small pipe room where I have a portable AC that exhausts thru the window.

In the condo now, so I do only smoke outside on the patio. I am looking forward to going to JR Cigars and smoking inside with the NC pipe group next month.

Although my blonde likes to complain every now and again about my "smoking" she's really a pretty good sport. She has often commented though that I have way too many hobbies... Don't know bout you guys, but I really don't see much wrong with golfin, flyin, cigarin, pipin, scotchin & pokerin. Must be a guy thing.
