What's the secret here? Each forum is different.

Imgur or some other hosting site, insert link via the little picture button in the Reply window.
We have some forum storage, but I would recommend and prefer if people use a photo hosting service as the internal storage is limited.

Worked for me... Click on "Reply" button. Click on "Insert Image" button. Paste in URL, i.e. i.imgur.com/Pa7UTmI.jpgNo need for alternative text.

Well, for some reason using the insert image button doesn't work for me. I have tried the image link and the BBCode. The only way I can get the image to appear is if I add it as an attachment and I'm concerned that it takes up space on the server when I do that.

Ok... a few things here. When using the image button, the full link needs to be in this format: i.imgur.com/Pa7UTmI.jpgThe important part about that link is that the image name is followed by .jpg, which is required whether using the image button, or the BBCode. pappyjoe , when I look at the post you made above that is blank, here is underlying code: Notice something missing? That particular link does not have a .jpg at the end of it. Imgur will give you several options for picture links. Anytime you are posting into this forum, you want to make sure you use the direct link, which will always have the image name followed by .jpg.

Or, conversely, you can select the BBCode option: And just paste it into the reply box.

Or, conversely, you can select the BBCode option: And just paste it into the reply box. Also correct. The forum will identify it as BBCode and automatically convert it to the photo. Thanks for adding that, Jesse.

Ok. That's the problem then. For some reason it was leaving the .jpg off when I copied the link. In fact, the .jpg doesn't appear on the link on imgur.

Thank you all for your input on this topic. Now it is time for me to rethink how and when to display pics of some of my future works. Don't have access to a hosting site
Again thank you

I've never used an image hosting site. Any advice on a good one that's easy to use? I'm using a MacBook Pro with El Capitan.

orley , I can wholeheartedly recommend Postimage.orgYou can access the site using the links postimg.org | postimages.org too, all of those will redirect you to the same site. I use it often both personally, and professionally. Very lightweight, minimalistic, and comes with pre-prepared links for all you can imagine after upload, including forum thumbnails & hotlinks. All you gotta do is click the "Copy to clipboard" button and you're set. Certainly my go-to.

If you have an Amazon Prime account it comes with photo hosting.

If you have an Amazon Prime account it comes with photo hosting. I never knew that, thanks...it appears by looking online that it used to be unlimited storage, they changed it and you get 5GB free...I might move all my photobucket pics to a thumb drive and merge everything over...currently I pay $3.99 monthly for 30 gb of storage..$12.00 a year for 100 GB is hardly a kings ransom at Amazon, and you can be pretty sure that they aren't going to pull a fast one on their customers. As many have found out..free today, may not be free tomorrow. www.amazon.com/b/?_encoding=UTF8&node=15547130011&ref_=cd_auth_homeBy comparison photobucket: photobucket.com/pricingMany here complained about their pics being held hostage at photobucket...it might be worthwhile to do a 1 month subscription and put it all on a thumbdrive or computer and then close the acount a month later.
