There he is! Hey, I had to mention you, seeing as you're the one that not only got me into snuff, with that little black box of Original Gawith, but then sent me four OUNCES of the stuff, plus the cobguy snuff 10furlongs sent.
Thought you were trying to kill me with the Gawith, then found out I liked it. The single biggest thing I've learned is to sniff gently, don't snort it like you're trying to suck a golf ball through a garden hose.

So, when I see the Universe in the Malka dust, it will be time to leave?

It made my nose run and my feet smell. El Toro will really get your motor humming. I am going to see if Darin will agree to pull some teeth and get a frontal lobotomy, then we can have our own catfish Cooley nic challenge. Makla under the gums El Toro under the tongue Thor’s Hammer in the nose with a Fubar Bohica topping While smoking Brown Bogie.

I'm in! Although, I've always said that I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy. Lol

The Makla dries out pretty quick... as I said earlier, it is said that once opened you need to carry it flat, which will not work in a pocket. I tried rehydrating with a couple of drops of water that didn’t work very well, based on the ingredient breakdown, a couple drops of olive oil might have been a better route to take. Edit: Maybe try the last guy’s advice if I end up there again. snuffhouse.com/discussion/8178/rehydrate-snus

I've added a few drops of DI water to mine twice now and also slightly dampen my fingers before forming it which helps the crumblies. It needs some flavor and perhaps a few drops of bourbon would be nice.

So what methods do you guys prefer? Specifically, what's the best way to avoid back-drip? When I discovered snuff last year I started doing it pretty regularly, but have been on a long break because I think the back-drip was aggravating a stomach issue (acid reflux). The cause has now been dealt with and I'm thinking about returning to the occasional snuff, but would really like to minimize what gets into my stomach as much as possible.

If it's coarse and moist I prefer to use the back of my hand. (the anatomical snuff box) For more fine and/or dry snuff the pinch method gives me the most control. I almost never use the boxcar method, myself. Aim for the largest portion of the outer nasal cavity without going back towards the sinuses. Also, squeezing the nostrils together and blowing sooner than later all seem to help. The really fine and dry snuffs are the hardest to take / control. Good luck and welcome back!

You really have to gently “take” the Snuff, I agree with Darin on taking the fine snuff. If after you take Snuff and your schnozzola starts running, blow the nose and retake some... clearing the deck.

I prefer coarse and moist anyway. Cannot do Toque at all, for example (which is fine because none of them did much for me flavor-wise). I wasn't blowing out soon, so that would probably help a lot. Thanks for the tips!

BUMP!! Yesterday, I sent out three samples of my blends to a guy trying to resurrect Artisan Snuff. With the loss of Chef Daniel and the tightening constraints from across the pond, someone needs to grab the reins. He is running it via "donations" like Chef did ... email the request and "donate" via Paypal. Stay tuned ... more to come!

Watching some vids and my interest is peaked. Any suggestions for what site(s) to order from and what brands are nice?

Mr. Snuff still carries all the blends they can (post-EU Reg's) and I've had good experiences with them: mrsnuff.com/index.htmlToque carries only their own product, but have many good ones, and also all good experiences so far: www.toquesnuff.com/In general, the more coarse / moist blends are easier to take while the fine / dry type can require a little more practice. Here's a few I really enjoy: The Viking Thor's Hammer Taxi Red Kendal Brown Toque Ambrosia, Spanish Gem, Berwick Brown, Whiskey and Honey, Original, Natural Making your own can be as simple as drying and grinding up pipe tobacco! After many trials, I've come up with a blend that is going into larger scale production and will be for sale. If you'd like a preview of that one, I'd be happy to send some samples.

I did it when I was young because I thought every vice was a good thing. Go ahead and try it, but if ya don't like it right away, it may not be worth continuing. #7

I really like Kendal Brown it is a great snuff...not enough knowledge on the McChrystals, but they have their following.
In my minimalist experience, there are menthols which I like sparingly, floral tasting like Freibourg and Treyer Macouba which from what I have read is an over 100 year old blend, and the Kendal brown, Thors Hammer which seem more tobacco like. Indian snuffs tend to be more floral.
Subscrbe to Mr Snuff emails, when they do a free shipping promotion to the USA, it really is a deal too good to pass up if you think that you might like them.
Darin has forgotten more than I will ever know though on snuffs, whatever he says is gold.

Never saw the stuff before I met you guys at the February pipe meeting. I have to admit it looked a little scary. But now that a little time has gone by I got my first tin ( Thor's Hammer ) and all I got to say is WOW. Long live the Hammer.

I have never tried snuff and I am wondering what is the attraction? Do you get some type of buzz from using it?

I've had that one and some other Rustica Strains from S. America ... strong in scent and in KICK.
The scent is quite unique and reminds me of the monkey-house section of the zoo or perhaps some strong barnyard smells.

Snuff comes in hundreds of scents and can be used during those times that a smoke is not possible.
I wouldn't say that I get a "buzz" anymore than with a pipe but it does deliver the Vitamin N in a smooth way.
Also, it's WAY safer than dip / chew due to the very low TSNA's.
It's been around for centuries and has been used medicinally in many cultures.
