To expand our reach a bit, I have added a new category under the Forum Index titled The Cigar Lounge. There are two new discussion boards labeled Cigars & CAD and Cigar Reviews. While we are a pipe focused forum, I know we have some cigar smokers among us. I figured it's only appropriate to give them a place to discuss their obsession with phallic symbols. Just kidding.

I have been watching Cigar videos most of the day since learning about AJ Fernandez Cigar called Spectre which is a Latakia blend. I might cross over to the dark side.

Although I enjoy a hearty full bodied cigar every now and again, I am primarily a medium smoker.
I find Arturo Fuente's to be pretty much right in the sweetspot of what I like to smoke.
Curly Head's are their entry level cigar, box of 40 for $100 or so. Great smoke to sort of cut your teeth on. I usually take a handful with e when I go golfin to be able to hand out to anyone else who wants one.
For a more refined cigar I'd recommend Opus X. Fuente's premier line.

That's great, sparks! But as Freud supposedly said, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Penzaholic, those intrigue me, too. I have one that I need to burn soon. I tried a Drew Estate Root a couple of weeks ago, which is supposed to have some kind of pipe tobacco but I couldn't tell what it was. Maybe I'll smoke the Spectre this weekend. bonanzadriver, Fuente is probably my favorite cigar maker, too. The Hemingway Short Story is one of my top 3 for sure, though I've never smoked an Opus X. The only Curly Head I had was a claro (the green candela wrapper) and it was, um, hideous.

Oh no, the gartards will be upon us! Only joking I too enjoy the odd cigar here on the Dark Continent. Mainly Cohibas & Romeo y Julieta's.

My favorite used to the Fuente Curley Head Maduro. As Dino said, the price-point can't be beat and they are an easy cigar to smoke. The maduro was the best of the line in my opinion. Though not a high end cigar, they were great for mindless puffing.
About 4 years ago, I decided to try the 5 Vegas line that are made for Cigarsinternational.com. These quickly became a favorite. Priced right, great flavor and burn and enough variety for all tastes. They make up a good portion of my humidor, primarily the 5 Vegas Series A, though the Gold and Classic are worth keeping around for the inexperienced smoker.

I love Fuente cigars, the Hemmingway cigars are my favorite and the 858 maduro cigar has that black pepper spice I love! My goto cigars right now are Quorum maduro cigars, the price is AMAZING and the cigars are pretty darn smokable considering most cigars in this price range are usually made from wet sawdust and gunpowder!

penzaholic, the Spectre cigar is a very interesting smoke. Russ O. blended the Spectre pipe tobacco for them and it is a very good blend. I smoke a box a week of Camacho Corojo Toros in addition to Pardons, Kristoff, My Father, Fratello and a few others. I'm looking forward to learning about what others here like.

+1 on the Spectre ... well worth trying. When I was buying cigars some of my favorites were: Padron xxxx La Gloria Cubana Wavell Sancho Panza Double Maduro Torano 50 year Fuente Reserva, 8-5-8, Curly's, etc... However, I rarely purchase cigars anymore as I now roll my own from whole-leaf. The latest batch was Dominican Piloto Cubano Ligero, Seco and Viso fillers in an Indonesian Bezuki binder and finished off with a DFK wrapper. Needless to say, these have enough Vitamin N to force you into your comfy chair.

I have enjoyed a few of them and am planning on buying a box soon.

I believe that the last batch of Opus X were in the container that was hijacked this past Spring. I know our shop hasn't had them in quite a while. As great as they are they've gotten to the point where I can't justify buying them anymore.

I think Carlos or is it Carlito..anyway someone there is living in a fantasy world and is so full of himself where the Opus X line now has cigars for upwards of 30 bucks a stick! There are some people that probably buy them to flash around in front of friends but that is the only market I see for such cigars. This is just my opinion and if you do smoke them and buy the $30 sticks tell me what makes them so special! I am not being snarky or an arse, I just want to k now what the difference is between a $6 cigar one for $10 and a $30 cigar!

Mike ... you are spot on, IMHO. What you pay for in a more expensive cigar is maturity of the leaf. I've smoked Opus X and a few others that are comparable and the difference is not worth the extra money. A great example of this in the pipe world is Penzance. It's more rare and more expensive so it must be better ... right?

This is a bad influence on me, as I have a Cigar/pipe shop 2 miles down the Greenway that I can get to in my powerchair.

To a certain extent, I've found little correlation between price and quality with cigars. I smoked a Diamond Crown last week, mild but peppery, rolled by Fuente, around $12. They sounded great but I've had better smokes for $2, like the Fuente-made Sosa, Davidoff-made Corazon, and Villiger La Libertad and Colorado. Between Holt's and CBid and so many un-trendy but quality brands, you really don't need to be rich to smoke great cigars.
Having said that, since discovering pipes, my cigar smoking and interest have gone way down. Sometimes I still really enjoy them, but other times I think, "Wow, I could've had a bowl McConnell's Oriental!"

I am not being snarky or an arse, I just want to k now what the difference is between a $6 cigar one for $10 and a $30 cigar! I have never been mistaken for a high end cigar smoker. I prefer a pipe on most occasions and when I do purchase cigars I buy my cigars in bulk or in sampler packs. I prefer $4-6 sticks typically because in my experience there is a significant jump at that price range vs a $2 cigar. I will be the first to say that there is definitely not a huge difference between a $10 stick and something like an Opus X but my first Opus X was a gift from a friend and I enjoyed the stick more than any other cigar I had smoked. He told me they were a higher end cigar but I had no idea that it was a $30 stick when I smoked it. I just knew it was one of the best sticks I had ever smoked. I went back to see what I would have to pay to get some more for my humidor and only then was when I found out that I really couldn't afford to fill humidor with those sticks. However I think as a treat on occasions there is nothing wrong with treating yourself to a nice high end stick if that is what you like and have the resources to do it. If I had to choose between two My Fathers or one Opus X I would chose the Opus X. I may regret it the next day when I didn't have a second stick but to me the experience of the Opus X was quite enjoyable. For me the hard part is justifying an Opus X over a 5 pack of $5 sticks that I enjoy which is why I typically default to those when clicking the order button. (I wish I had a brick and Mortar place within an hour drive and am jealous of all you guys who do) I have purchased several $10 sticks that have been duds (there is always that risk) but I am 3 for 3 with the Opus X, until I get a dud I will get the occasional one in my rotation on special occasions. However a $30 dud would definitely turn me off for good. Just my two cents. But my cigar philosophy is, whatever your preference just enjoy whatever stick is in your hand.

Went to a meet and greet with Mombacho rep. A couple of months ago at Spring Street Cigars. I was very impressed with them. Bought a box. Camacho. Rocky Patel decades. Drew Estate. Are others I really enjoy.
Glad to see a thread for cigars. Thanks.

Opus X are expensive but they certainly taste great. They always taste better than anything else I smoke. I'll smoke one every once in a while. Never flashed them to anyone because I only smoke one on a special occasion and only when I can totally focus on it by myself. I want to be totally alone for it. The demand is big and the supply is low. I don't see prices coming down anytime soon.

Question: Do you remove the band? The AJ Fernandez Spectre has a super wide band.

Yeah, I remember seeing that, I wonder if they ever busted anyone. How the heck do you fence a container full of cigars? Probably an inside job.

This section is a fine idea! I don't smoke cigars often, but still enjoy one from time to time.
