Pork is cheaper than dirt here. Half the price of beef. If you shop right you can find chicken leg quarters for 79 cents /lb and whole chickens for 69 cents a pound. Lamb on the other hand starts at around $30 /lb. After the 4th of July Kroger had ridiculous prices on nice steaks. They must have overbought for the holiday and sales were down. Up here, Pork has been cheap too, but Bacon is sky high. I've asked, but never received a satisfactory answer . . . i.e. because they can get away with it. Bacon is high here to, but there's always a brand on sale. The stuff I opened this morning was as thin as prosciutto. I like it medium thick. Not bacon steaks. I think it is because bacon is the most popular part of the pig. Same reason chicken wings cost more than breasts. gfycat.com/peacefulbitesizedibis

Looks as though I will reheat another elk burger mixes with fine diced bacon and grilled over charcoal this weekend. Cheese, aioli, tomato, green chile, sliced raw onion. Not bread or bun. I am down to two slices of whole wheat bread for toast in the AM.

Because of SOMEONE on the forum, I just finished a sliced tomato with olive oil, Greek seasoning and feta cheese. Chicken Cordon Bleu in the oven.

Smithfield* sausage patties and links. Naturally nested eggs. Toasted sourdough English muffins. Cranberry juice to drink.
* these Smithfield sausage products are precooked and microwave in 2 minutes. Taste was surprisingly good, even come out lightly crisp. I hate cooking fresh sausage and will definitely buy them again.

Smithfield was a very good pork processor. Years ago when I had to cook for my little band of loggers and wood cutters, I made a hearty breakfast every work day. I found a ten pound box of Smithfield frozen breakfast pork chops, you know, small chops. I would also buy five dozen egg flats. I made a lot of breakfasts out of all that. Fresh home made biscuits with pork chop gravy topped with fried eggs was a favorite. You see, some of these guys lacked teeth. Smithfield is now owned by the Communist Chinese, not that it matters much to me.

Having some baby potatoes (roasted) along with some cheap steaks from Lidl and garlic green beans...I say, 'having' - YET to have. They are still in the fridge ready to be cooked.

Two pullet eggs on a slice of toast with grated cheese and an onion slice.
Hoping to lunch today in the Town of Toad, eh, Taos, at my favorite Mexican joint. The one with real live Mexicans, bless their hearts!
Since the Taco plate has been compromised by cost cutting, I am thinking either Chile Colorado or Chile Verde. One is beef the other pork. One is red, the other green.

Sam's Club has a big box of Swaggertys sausage patties for $10 for 42. They are very meaty, little fat and medium seasoned. You guys can always add red pepper on top if you like that kind of thing. When we can't get those we buy Old Folks brand, which are smaller, fatter, and cost half again more.

Pasta is good. My first wife taught me how good it can be. People don't know that if you cool it after it's cooked and reheat in, you have made the fast carbs into slow carbs. We usually cook spaghetti and noodles the night before we eat it.

No one wanted to go to my favorite Mexican joint, the one with real live, oh you know.
We ended up at some Hippie place with Apricot Chicken Enchiladas made with blue corn tortillas. WAY too precious a place to expect a beer with lunch. It was good food. I do not always get along with these people as I am just not groovy enough or something. Me likey Mexicans I can joke with and who do not mind a fat guy in jeans and boots.

Getting more use out of my rice cooker w/steamer basket. So it was half a Danish canned ham, broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. The veg and rice with butter and lemon juice. Cranberry juice, my usual dinner beverage.
