Had a frozen WhiteCastle cheesburger...no it wasn't frozen when I ate it...little burgers are really terrific...don't know if it is the meat (questionable) or the onions on them, but they are great. Blackberry/Cran for a drink...later was a cafe con leche with the wife and pooch. (pooch doesn't care for cafe con leche...she just had the leche).

A dozen White Castle Burgers for $1 at their stores. Just the thing for a bunch of hungry boys.

I love burning stuff!! Yeah, so do I...gotta be careful... with a hose nearby...make sure those embers don't turn the day into disaster. Having another cup of cafe con leche before the work starts.

I wasn't sure if this should have went in the what are you smoking? thread.... After lurking on some BBQ forums and reading about smoked short ribs, I figured I would give it a shot...225 degrees for about six hours they say, pull off when the meat gets to 203 degrees or so. I have done racks of beef ribs in the past with some pretty amazing results...I made the potato salad last night. It is for my granddaughter's birthday party, providentially my daughter has a friend from San Francisco flying in that will supply the sourdough bread. 15 pounds of shortribs, when they are done, I am going to grill a halved chicken, and do some sausages...the 3 main food groups, beef, poultry, and pork...right? I find that this portable fan is just what the doctor ordered, without it The coals don't get hot enough...sub 200 degrees, on low setting it maintains perfect smoking temperatures with only a 5 degree variation.

Four eggs scrambled with a sprinkling of grated sharp cheddar cheese, four slices of Hormel bacon, and a cup of Trader Joe's Five Country Espresso blend, while perusing this silly site Hey trailboss, that BBQ looks downright delicious. Only wish Gilbert wasn't that far away from Bend, or you'd have an uninvited guest over today Enjoy the BBQ Charlie...

They go through so much coffee there it is always fresh. And the waitresses are hand picked by the family, so you always get really nice people. And the egg yolks stand high. Fresh.

And the egg yolks stand high. Fresh. I miss places like that. Taos is known for its surly service personnel. A long history of uncooperative people who view service to others as demeaning to their persons. LOL! Reading accounts from the Kit Carson and Trapper era, little has changed. If people know you, they can be friendly enough. If not, look out!

We had a waiter recently who acted "put-out" with every little request and kept heavy handing the dishes. He returned, finally, with my wife's correct order and somewhat dropped the plate in front of her. I looked him dead in the eyes and said, "the next dish you drop at our table is going up your A$$"!! Needless to say, he changed his tune quickly and the manager who heard me say this came over to apologize.

jeffd toshtego We have two "Original Pancake House's" in the area. One here in Bend on the Westside of town, and the other in Redmond located near the airport. Its a West coast chain (not really familiar where else they may be located other than San Diego, CA), that produces some good breakfast foods (pancakes, bacon, waffles, biscuits and gravy, and coffee). However, what they really have is great customer service. Friendly, and have been known to strike-up a conversation for a brief spell, and always return to see if your cup needs refilling

Lunch was a stri-fry with left over roast pork and the last of the black bean garlic paste. Was good, too.

South of Oakland, north of San Jose in Fremont, this Greek owned place was always a favorite: www.zmenu.com/the-country-way-fremont-online-menu/The prices may seem steep, but it is actually two meals...they bring it on a platter and the bacon is thick to perfection...I dont think that I ever ate the whole meal in one sitting. In San Jose's Willow glen district are several other Greek owned restaurants...them Greek folk really know how to turn out a meal.
