Love them but they are too pricey now for regular smoking. Last week, I found myself in town and forgot a pipe. So, it was over to the smoke shop for a couple of Romeo y Julieta coronas. Enjoyed that. Years back I used to buy Paul Garmirian coronas in a nice cedar box. They were a great value. IMHO, a good Cuban was hard to top but for regular use, Nicaragua produced some fine smokes- strong and sharp. Jamaicans were too mild for my taste. I guess the Dominican Republic produced the most consistent quality cigars. My dad was a cigar smoker, Roi Tan was his brand. What stinkers those were! Jack Kirby smoked Roi-Tans. Everybody but Jack hated them. When he had to quit smoking, his wife Roz bought all new curtains for their house, and said, "Now, I'll finally have nice smelling curtains." Jack's favorite inker, Mike Royer used to "air" out the pages before he inked them. One day, he decided to try Roi-Tans. Before he could finish the cigar, Mike had to lay down on the floor, and recuperate.

used to be about 10 a week with 3 or 4 pipes a day. Cut back some since my wife was diagnosed with asthma. Now it's about half that. I enjoy the Montecristo #20 but had a #2 earlier this year that was sublime! Usually keep a box of Fuente 858's in the humidor. But most of my humidor is stocked with CI specials, hard to pass up a good deal on Romeo Y Julieta's lol.

Thanks for sharing this with us, I have almost quit smoking my pipe due to Basil getting me started on them, but I definitely need to find some cheap ones on this list.

Smoked a Don Kiki Limited Reserve this morning. My tobacconist recommended it yesterday/ I was a bit reluctant as it was about $5.00 for a toro but it turns out to be a very good cigar. I won't hesitate to buy it again. Who knew you could get a decent sick fr that money? I'm happy with it.

I went to the cigar store today, but the only one they had was the Arturo Fuentes Reservation. It was $ 6.00. That's a long way from your $2-3.00 price range.

I keep a small humidor in conjuction with my brother. He buys bundles of Cohiba and Bolivar whilst I mostly smoke cheap local makes I pick up whilst travelling around Mexico. In terms of known brands, I'm very partial to smoking a Vega Fina once every two weeks or so. My problem with most premium cigars comes down to size; I can't imagine ever having the time, money, or lung capacity to justify anything larger than a lonsdale, corona, or maybe a robusto.

Are/were you a professional inker; I'm a big 70s-90s DC fan boy, did you work on anything I might have read?

I used to smoke cigars daily and occasional pipe smoker. I mostly smoked Arturo Fuente Hemingway Signature, and Davidoff Cigarillos. When available, I loved Montecristo no.2. I still love cigars and smoke them every so often. I just love pipe smoking a little more.

I used to get my hands on everything DC until about the Zero Hour cross-over and then just focused on a few series.

I dig a good cigar and built up a decent collection prior to picking up the pipe. I have a few hundred left over from the early 2000s. Just last Sunday I had my first cigar in almost two years. A tasty Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur Merlin from a box I bought in 2004. Good stuff. Earlier this afternoon, I smoked my last La Gloria Cubana Gloria from the second box of cigars I ever bought. Definitely pushing 20 years old. The HdM . . .

Before we had kids, I smoked good cigars by the box and and drank good wine by the case. After kids it became JR knockoffs and cheap wine by the box. I smoked cigars for a lot of years, but the cost got out of hand for me. I started buying JR knockoffs. I found some pretty tasty smokes for about a buck a piece. I haven't bought any cigars since I discovered the pipe, though.

Once in a blue moon I like a short smoke of a dry cured Henri Winterman Cafe Creme. They are also low maintenance, no humidor needed...around 12-15% only which is good considering how little I smoke them.

I smoke cigars every once in a while. My son is 19 and we smoke a nice stick together every so often. Cigars are the reason I got into pipes. The price of a stick kept going up and I just couldn't afford to smoke on a regular basis. I thought of my grandpa smoking his pipe when I was a kid and thought I should look into it. It was much more reasonable, for a while, lol. Cheaper to get into anyway and at that time a tin would last me a while. But even with all of my purchases and looking at my cellar...the pipe hobby, for me, is still cheaper than cigars. Nothing like a good stick once in a while though.

I smoke cigars once in a while in the summer months out on our back patio with my faithful Labradoodle. Lately, I've been buying 5 Vegas which are an affordable, but very good cigar, IMHO.

One my biggest first world problems is deciding between having a pipe or a cigar. Pipe usually wins.

Luckily, he never smoked Roi-Tans.

I got all caught up in the cigar thing in the 90s. And loved it.
I have gone back and forth between a cigar enthusiasm and a pipe enthusiasm.
Right now i am in the middle of my latest and strongest wave of pipe enthusiasm, and I might occasionally have a cigar, but its going to be all that often.

I love my cigars but now mostly pipes. I used to smoke 3-5 a day on a religious basis. RASS, RA Gigante, Monte #2, Siglo V & VI, etc, etc. It was an expensive hobby but hey you only go around once.

But ya can go broke over and over again..just ask...not going there. After 35 yrs of cigars I found myself getting to that point and losing the ritual aspect. Just starting piping this year and along with that really digging the pipe craftsmanship and historical attributes. Wrong place to say it but I would still argue cigars have a much more complex range of flavors. A piper will say nutty and a cigar aficionado will decribe ten different kinds of nuts. Aging goes to the pipe side though as one can go from good to great where a cigar will move the dial a shorter distance.

Yes, but if I'm going to step outside for a smoke, it's no choice - as much as I like cigars, I like pipes better. Sometimes, if not traveling with a pipe, a cigar or cheroot has had to do.

Back in the 70’s and 80’s I always had a cigar hanging out of my mouth. The 70’s was my era of Optimo Palmas Maduro or Rigoletto Black Jacks. Some of my favorite cigars I smoke now once in a while.....ANY Padron, Arturo Fuentes Sundried Maduro or 858. Still also enjoy the Punch Rothschild Maduro.....excellent cigar at a reasonable price.

I keep about 40 decent cigars in my humidor ranging from Rocky Patel Edge Sumatra to Monte number 2 but for a shop cigar I smoked my father short filler series Toro. I also like the cabinet number 5 and the neanderthal. Oh hell I like a whole bunch of different cigars I am of the opinion they're all just like pizza it's all good just some is better than others.
