Russ commented in a similar thread on PM that they've been having problems with several of their main suppliers. P&C doesn't have control of when blenders send out shipments, or whether shipments come in under the amount ordered. My own experiences with them have largely been good. Even when they got screwed by the company that installed their tracking system I had only one order that was delayed by a couple of weeks. Not a tragedy, not even an irritation. They had an error in a recent shipment that they rectified quickly. Since I don't use PayPal to pay for my orders I'm not billed for anything that they don't ship. Their shipping is slow compared to SP, but they have blends that I like and have generally fulfilled my orders without any hassle. And they're improved their packing considerably. I have no reason not to buy from them.

Jesse, I reread your post and realized you were replying to the original title. I just left another forum over the constant badgering of every post I've posted in the last month. This post is more in relation to that and what my recent issue with P&C is.
I have no reason not to order from them. They still got a hundred dollar order from me. Would have been two hundred if their price on Butternut Burley had a sliding scale as opposed to a strict price per ounce. Saving a Jackson by going to 4 Noggins was worth it.
Everyone in Saint Elsewhere Forum assumes I am bitching. Not really. It's like going to a micro brewery and later finding out you can get their singular beer cheaper at another restaurant. I was trying to be more informative than bitchy, yet I was threatened with the Magnificent Seven (more likely the Light Fingered Five Minus Two) coming out and tearing me apart.
BBurley would have cost me 112$ at P&C (their product). 92$ at 4 Noggins (not their blend). The same was for Trout Stream.

I will still buy from them, I don't really have an axe to grind, just offering constructive criticism......I built my cellar pretty much from P&C stock, but I am really about done...I wanted to finish my cellar well before I retire.

I'll still buy from them too, but I will watch it on some of their new in stock blends to make sure I can't get them elsewhere more cheaply. 20$ is still a lot of money to me to pay more for one item. I just had groceries delivered from two places because the different zip codes have two different tax structures. I saved 15$ doing that.
Similarly, SPC gets less of my biz as they are higher priced on many items. It's not an axe to grind to say it.

SP seems to fill the niche on bulk premium flakes and ropes that P&C just doesn’t carry.
For the life of me, I don’t know why P&C doesn’t replicate how SP markets their pipes with “the one you see is the one you get” SP really smokes them in that category.

The only pipes I have ordered at P&C are MM's. It's not so much the what you see is what you get aspect, but the way they list them. I get a permanent 5% discount on pipes at SP.
However, if Pipe Nook has the same pipe I will forego the discount and buy from them. PN doesn't have as big of a selection, which is actually easier for me to find a pipe I like. If I don't see a brand or a pipe, then I go to SP. I like some of the Mr. Brog's that PN has.

The lack of a quantity discount on Butternut Burley is interesting as P&C generally offers it on bulk tobaccos. Someone higher up on the food chain decided that this one was a cash cow that didn't require a discount to move.

It's the same with Berry Nice and Vermont Meat Pie. Thanks for answering what I meant, as opposed to thinking I was griping, Jesse

Curiously, the one backordered item from about a month ago just showed up at my doorstep. Russ wouldn't say which supplier was really holding them up, but I had a pretty good idea, based on what part of the order hadn't been fulfilled. Guess they got in some tobacco.

I placed orders with CI and I got a great deal with the 15% off coupon at P&C in late October with no issues. I hadn't placed a large pipe tobacco order in a few years but the coupon plus the sale price and free shipping got me to give them a shot and they came through! CI's Cigar Fest is at the top of my list when I retire.

They just shipped my order on a Sunday. Can't beat that. My biggest two issues remain stock and their price on a few house brands vs getting them cheaper elsewhere.
Budweiser/Busch Beer was made here for over a hundred years. I got pissed when I went to Kentucky and found it cheaper there than here, where we labored and supported it. Didn't stop me from drinking it, though

Well still waiting on part of my order from Oct. 4th. PS-LBF was not shipped(4 days into the sale on it)so going on to 7 weeks of waiting. Missed out of this problem the first part of the year. Looks like nothing has changed with them to me.

My first time ordering from C&P and they just sent me a notification that my packaged shipped incomplete! Why not send an email/phone call prior to shipping offering to replace something that was out of stock with something in stock? Worst case scenario you'd figure that offering a store coupon for later use would be cheaper and less complicated than shipping a second package at a later date. -Sigh-

Worst case scenario you'd figure that offering a store coupon for later use would be cheaper and less complicated than shipping a second package at a later date. -Sigh- I usually had no problem with orders when I bought in stock items. Recently they did as you said above. They must have had the stock for less than a day as it only showed up in stock that morning. My first issue with them was over using a PayPal account that had a different email address. No notice. I messaged them. Nothing. I finally called a week later when the item hadn't shipped. Seems like once a year I get so mad on the phone that I use the F Off ending. I later signed on using a different email, one that matched one of my PayPals. I have been on the Net so long I have a dozen email addies, two eBay accounts, and three (was four) PayPals. So things went swimmingly for a while. Then I smelled mold on one of my boxes. It could be seen. The moisture that caused it had dried and left a stain. Ridiculed for my post, I persisted. Russ's second reply was that they had indeed found moldy boxes. I still spent over 200$ with P&C this month. I can say thankfully that Russ's blends are the rare ones that deliver their description from tin note to mouth. However, I have one coupon to use and my TAD comes at an end. I may live long enough to smoke my cellar. I may not, but I don't need any more. For those that have a Bronze Badge at SP. Keep trying. My Silver is good for a 5% discount on all pipes. Wonder what a Gold Badge portends.

That must be an awfully confusing set up. Maybe we can all kindly suggest that P&C hire a consultancy firm to sort some of these issues?

I remember when Timothy (Rsuniv)...now goes by "ash" something or other at PM...Ordered a small amount of tobacco, and P&C sent him 30 pounds of either Bullseye flake or Newminster superior rounds. Being the standup guy he is, he contacted them about their error....Had they sent 30 punds of Stonehaven, that little devil on the right shoulder would be hard to ignore.....

When P&C wants to throw money at me - like their current $20 off $20 or more - I will gladly accept it. What's not to like about scoring a couple of tins for $4 shipping? On the other hand, I agree that their stock is pretty poor in many respects. Good thing I like McClelland blends. Between the current deal and those aggressive coupon-stacking deals in their summer promos, I think I have everything I want from their website for now. Although some to think of it, there are some other McC and Sutliff and GH blends I've been wanting to try.....

My online orders are rare these days. I did take advantage of that latest coupon that was posted here to get some pipe cleaners and some Edward G Robinson. I haven't noticed much change since they were bought out. They went downhill a bit at that time but seem to have maintained since that point. I personally think their back order system gets them in more trouble than its worth.

In follow up to my dilemma with P&C I want to say that after writing to them to propose fullfilling my order with an alternate tobacco, they were very quick in responding and accepting my recommendation. I even sent them three recommendations and not only did they acquiesce to one of them, they picked the most expensive of the three. In short, I'm a happy camper and will consider them an option in the future.

I took advantage of a promo code this past weekend. I ordered 6 different tobaccos, some tinned and some bulk. I also included 10 softy bits. Low and behold the entire order shipped! It was to arrive today. I was quite happy. But this wouldn’t last long. The one item I wanted to order was Dunhill De Luxe Navy rolls, but they where backordered. So I didn’t bother. Today I was in my email when the DH promo email arrived. I jumped right in, only to see the Navy Rolls are still back ordered along with 2 others. Why do they do this? They put out these promos and they dont have the product. You cant even put them in the cart thtough the promo link. Oh well, I’m happy to get home and get my package. There it was at the door. All the tobaccoss were in the box. But wait where are the softy bits? Oh they are there, thrown loose in to the box, maybe the bag opened, no bag, All 10 just tossed into the box. They have always bagged them in the past. What next, bulk tobaccojust tossed in a box? Lets all hope after the issues they’ve had in 2017 they can get things back on track for 2018

One thing I found out the very last purchase I made:
Captain Black Royal never did show in stock. I checked several times everyday. They managed to ship mine during that time, so perhaps they are not always entering them into stock until they get their orders filled. While it's nice that I got my tobacco it's even more confusing than we already figured

In a rare move, I used the $20.00 off promo and bought a pipe from them. It was in stock, though it was a second choice as I went there to get that Butz Choquin 2 pipe box set, that was out of stock. Even shipped the next day, but entered the Sure Post nexus, with a 3 day hang up, fobbed off to operating conditions in Horsham, Pennsylvania. An order from Payless placed at the same time, arrived 2 days ago. My pipe from P & C is somewhere between here and there.

One of my last two orders was supposed to arrive today by Suck Post. It is now arriving Tuesday. WTF is wrong with Monday? Damned thing was only 12 ounces and it could have made it here first class in three days. They would have even made a couple bucks on the shipping. Used to Be Federal Express then UPS then USPS. Now it's USPS UPS (distant second) and totally lost FedEx

I received a bunch of pretty dented tins of Peterson’s Irish Flake... 10 out of 10 were dented. It appears they were either dented before they got to P&C, or while in their possession, but that is the way they shipped.

It makes it to town and then sits for days before the hand off

Despite UPS best efforts to keep me from getting my pipe, it arrived today. I'll give P&C credit where due, the pipe being as advertised and decently packaged. The bonus calendar is appreciated as well and saves me the hassle of obtaining one locally.

will P/C ever have SWRA pouches in stock again? sheesh... No. Just kidding. Thing is, SWRA and some others like CH, are pretty pricy. I would not buy tubs of SWRA, though I like it. Just not a regular smoke. You could try Mixture 79
