Warning to all expecting regular ship times:
A few weeks ago I could place an order with SP on Saturday and if it shipped that day have it on Monday Pipestud usually ships my orders on Monday and I get them on Wednesday 4 Noggins would ship on Thursday and I just might get it Saturday Priority and some were First Class
Pipestud and SP both shipped an order on Monday. I am told they will be here Friday. It still beats other services as at least I know who will be delivering it
Just a heads up

Great service to the Dark Continent as well. It's when it lands here that the trouble begins...

yes, it seems kind of early in the season for deliveries to have slowed this much. UPS delivered my order last week at 10:30pm....

You guys better not be complaining...want some cliff notes on the subject? My personal shipments have been getting snag fests.....just ask Margaret or Herbindave...two patient people. I stopped paying more for priority services because just because you pay more for it doesn't mean that faster service is gauranteed. Tis the season to not have high expectations of a fast shipment...unless you order from Amazon.

I was shocked a few weeks ago when USPS delivered a package to my house on a Sunday.

It's the annual Christmas rush slow down, I'm afraid. Plus, USPS is giving priority to Amazon right now due to all the business that big Gorilla gives to them. And you know the story, it's tough to whup an 800 pound gorilla. Sigh. Just be patient folks, USPS is indeed amazing in what they accomplish with our mail, but I can't even imagine what they must go through during the Christmas season when business must be overwhelming.

Amazon is using their own delivery service now. You can see a map of the delivery person's route. I had some package coming for Bullet today. They don't knock. Xuan was out there and minutes after the delivery (three) the package was gone. They take a pic of their delivery on the tracking page but the don't frickin knock. The box was about the size a laptop would come in. I can't wait for those crooks to open it an see 18 tennis balls! There is joy in Mudville. Amazon is replacing the order. This has never happened before. Beware

Pipestud Agree. We have 5 Amazon distribution facilities in Phoenix... the amount of product moved daily is mind boggling, and this is replicated across the country, as of September they had 140 shipping centers in the US, more are on the way. And that, is only one online shipper.

And you may already know this, trailboss, but Amazon is now even delivering on Sundays - using USPS for those Sunday deliveries. Their operation is so large that even with, DSL, UPS and USPS (and others) as their carriers, they are now reporting that they are in the process of starting their own delivery service in some parts of the country where shipping volume is highest. Man, I'd sure love to have some stock in that company!

The company I work for makes delivery systems for UPS, FedEx, and Amazon. The one thing I know is that it boils down to staffing. They just don't have enough. I gotta say that USPS has gotten better over the last decade. Hell, probably over the last 5 years. I think since the other delivery companies have been swamped, they have really stepped up their game.

With any delivery service it's no better than the people who make the deliveries. My current mail carrier is a complete and utter nimrod, who delivers mail to the wrong address on a fairly consistent basis. I've walked any number of letters to other addresses on my street, and have had packages of mine delivered to the wrong address. I've also lodged a complaint with the main office. She's still misdelivering the mail. Forget about using Certified and Signed For. The USPS loses those and once lost, they stay lost. Right now, the USPS thoroughly and completely SUCKS!

Man, I'm glad that I don't live in your neighborhood, Sable. Talk about incompetent and uncaring!
However, I am a huge fan of the USPS (generally speaking). I've been shipping approximately 50-60 packages a week via USPS to the USA and around the world for 17-years. I can count lost packages on one hand and packages delivered to the wrong address on the other hand. Considering the untold millions of packages USPS delivers each week, their success rate is staggering. Having said all of the above, when a mishap occurs, yes sir, it sucks. And in my business, if I lived in Sable's neighborhood I'd have to put up a for sale sign on my piece of dirt, or, get another job. (-;

Our USPS girl always knocks on our door. The new Amazon delivery service has a lot of issues.

Our regular carrier, is really competent, but when he is off I am redelivering mail to the next street over that has the same house number. As good as my carrier is, I have learned to avoid talking to him...he is a wild eyed lunatic that blames Jews for everything, goes on about the Bildebergers, and Rockefellers, he could tell that my other neighbor that is a buddy is an FFL, and asked me to ask him to help him get guns.......the guy does his job right, but he is a lunatic.

Yes, they have a lot of independent contractors that operate out of the Amazon facilities...the sprinter sales van market must have exploded here if they were bought locally. I am guessing that Sunday deliveries by the USPS are those that have a "by date" guarantee...I see them at homes and the community mailboxes, so they have the ability to put it in a parcel box if someone isn't home? My daughter lives in an apartment complex where they have amazon parcel boxes.....the guys at work said that pretty soon they are going to have manned facilities where you can will call your product.

Great service to the Dark Continent as well. It's when it lands here that the trouble begins... Similar in Mexico. If I order a lot of stuff it can be easier to use a courier. I KNOW Correos de México will EVENTUALLY deliver but sometimes you wait a week and sometimes you wait 2 months. In any case things can be worse, when I lived in Equatorial Guinea locals would suggest having stuff shipped to an address in Cameroon or Spain and then having stuff brought by courier to the airport. It was cheaper to just learn to chew khat or kola nuts.

I had a mail carrier that would leave other people's mail at my house. I got a red marker, circled the address, wrote "Delivered to wrong address" and the date in big letters and put it back out the next day. in a couple weeks I stopped getting other people's mail.

The local PO and staff can make a lot of difference in quality of service. I live 3 miles outside a village of 1,500 people. I suspect that Dave, (yes, I know my postman) delivers everything on his route just from looking at the name on the package and doesn’t look at the address.

I've had a few different carriers over the years.Back in the 90's our carrier kept writing stupid comments on my mail.Things like "your box is crooked","Who's This?",and "You grass is too high". (I live in the sticks, cutting grass is not a priority)I complained to the PM General.I left a note pad and pen with a note asking him to quit writing on my mail.He kept it up.So long about june I came across a real nice gift for him.I found a wasp nest about the size of a dinner plate. Caught it up in a paper bag at night and deposited it into the mail box.Never had another nasty message on my mail. The carrier we have now is a great guy,if the package is too big for the mail box he will bring it up and set it in the glider on my porch.

I use my local Post Office, as there is no home delivery where I live. Functions fairly smoothly and I can check tracking for arrival and avoid wasted trips. Short hours on Saturday with a 1PM closing time, but that's the only drawback. As I am close to the station, the yearly box fee is waived. . The only delivery hassle I have had, is that some Ebay sellers won't ship to a PO Box.

Everyone, well, most everyone, complains about the USPS. Years ago I ordered four new steel 55 gallon drums with lids. These were lined drums for grain storage. I thought they would arrive by Common Carrier, a trucking company. Nope. I got a call from our local postmaster asking me to please come over and pick up my "packages". When I got there, yep, four new 55 gallon steel drums. She informed me that the contract mail carrier who normally picks up our mail in Taos driving his little car had to return to Taos in his truck just to pick up my drums. He was not happy about that extra 95 mile trip but that was the job. Who would have thought that steel drums could be sent through the mail?

We've been in our house for 22 years. The first fifteen of them were horrible for mail. I know people always say they have the biggest this or that, but the postal inspector said our crappy service was due to our station having the largest area (which may mean size plus houses) in the country. It was not large enough to be divided into two. Mail was coming as late as 9pm, getting the wrong mail; not getting the right mail. I was at the P.O. complaining once a week. One time I took the time to drive a larger package to them delivered wrongly to me. All it needed was a handoff and the jerk behind the counter said to wait in line. I started screaming and the mgr, who was a nice guy, took care of it. One time I complained about our mailman and the next day I had a nail in the side of my tire. Punched through. In the last several years I have no idea what has changed, as I am inbound. The mailgirl knocks on the door when we have a package that won't fit. We seldom get anything wrong, almost never. We get our mail in the morning now.

I would take UPS any day over the USPS. Only one I would rate lower than USPS would be DHL.
