Sutliff: RR Match in the same Stanwell Billiard* - Keep the embers burning.
* smoking these Brushed pipe steadily and as cake starts to form, they get better. ronv69 was right about the funky taste of the bowl coating and I would recommend sanding it out.

Holy Snow Storms Batman!
As with most everyone else here on the forum, we've been having some very cold weather. What was a 30% chance of snow this afternoon at 5pm turned into 100% @ 2pm.
Right after making my previous post my phone rings. My youngest son Nick had slid off the road, less than a mile from our house, and was stuck in the ditch. My son Seth and I loaded up and eased our way down there. When we got there we saw 4 men in front of Nicks pickup pushing and 4 or 5 in the bed and standing on the back bumper to give him better traction.
Nick backed his truck back onto the road just as we got there. I pulled the car to the side of the road and walked over to him. He asked if I would please drive it the rest of the way home.
I hopped in and Holy Sh!t !!
The county had put absolutely nothing down on the road, and being this far south there really aren't anly snow plows to speak of.
After 15 minutes of somehow barely keeping it out of the ditch we made our way to our house.
Then it was time to head back out and pick up Blondie (didn't want her driving in this either). The normal 10 to 12 minute drive took 30. Cars slippin and sliding everywhere, wrecks everywhere.
The drive home was worse, more cars and more wrecks. Took an hour.
The saving grace in all of this is the big pot of stew I had started in the crock pot earlier today! ;-)
Just finished that up and am now enjoying a bowl of Squadron Leader in one of my GBD Bent Bulldogs, sippin Earl Grey.
Gonna have to do this all over in another hour though. Jenni, our youngest, is working till 9, definitely don't want her driving in this.
Sumpin tells me this is gonna be a long night.

Trying another as I fight through being sick. I figure if I can't enjoy my all time favorite tobacco, I'm in real trouble! Vintage VaPer Three Nuns in a 1938 straight black grain relief Dunhill OX Shell bulldog with a silver band repair with a black vulcanite stem. Gatorade is my drink.

But yeah. This blend is superb. Anyone else familiar with Holiday Match? Does it always ship this dry? If it was a little more moist, I'd buy it by the pound- as it stands, I'll be hard pressed to smoke this 4 ounces before it turns to dust. I intend to try though. Haha One moisture disc to that 4 ounce bag should help. I ordered it from P&C and it didn't arrive particularly dry. I've got a 3cm x 4cm piece of microfiber cloth that serves me well (I wet it for a moment in the sink then squeeze out the water until the cloth is damp). It's effect takes about an hour to take hold and lasts about 10 days if you leave the cloth in the jar (keep in mind that Mexico City is pretty dry). I smoked Match Holiday drier than usual today and agree with you that it smokes better on the humid end of the spectrum.

I am going to try wiping it out with Everclear and 151 rum. I hate that it tastes so bad that I wouldn't even give it to a friend.

Sympathy toward those Southerners with the cold, ice etc. We Yanks used to it, still not pleasant. Course could still be July/Aug with repeated 90+ days & humidity. Store brand tea at this desk, '06 965 in little bowl Ascorti "Business" calabash, re-corking by M.Tinsky 4-5yrs ago. Side of SportsIllustrated reading in smoking room. After checking usual sites & latest e-messages....headed to the chats. www.chatzy.com/thebriarpatchEd Duncan, Batavia, NY pipe/cigar since '62

Thanks for all the well wishes briar bro's.
Just made it home from picking up the baby girl (18) from work. 1 hour each way, usually 15 minutes.
We have ended up with about 6" of snow when we were expecting a possible light dusting.
Dozens and Dozens of cars stuck and off in ditches. About 10 or 12 18 wheelers all jackknifed and bunched up together on Hwy 1.
Didn't see 1 single snow plow out in any of this.
Absolutely felt like I was swimming in a sea of idiots. Having lived in WY and the mountains of AZ, not to mention 3 1/2 years in IA, I've had my fair share of driving in pretty bad snow / ice etc...
The odd thing here is the fact that we have so many yankees down here that seem to have forgotten how to drive in this stuff.
Anyway, all the baby chicks are home and mamma hen (Blondie) is happy.
Got my nice hot steamin cup of Earl Grey and am enjoying a bowl of 20 y.o. Bombay Extra in what else?.... A Beautiful Bent Bulldog Briar. :-)

Looked at a house inside the beltway, closer to the VA hospital, just across the road from the old neighborhood today. Folks sold that one in 1985 after my little sis left the nest. Too many issues for the jack but it brought back some memories and still a good part of town. Smoking Esoterica Dunbar in an 1/8 bent Grade P James Upshall apple, drinking ice tea with lemon and listening to ESPN radio.
