Burley English from Racine & Laramie in Old Town, San Diego. I had just fished my dad's pipes out of the garage, and wanted to try one out. I looked for the most similar thing I could to what he smoked, judging by smell. Now I think it was probably just the Latakia. Needless to say, I still have most of it in a jar, unintentionally aged about 10 years.

I dont remember the name but I remember the source, it was a bulk blend from a local vape tobacco head shop. Some aro or another. My timeline is just over a year, so much shorter than most. I moved on fairly quick when I found the forums and the excellent online sources.

Middleton’s cherry blend in their mini cigars, labeled as pipe tobacco in a cigar.
The first bowl was Tinderbox North Sea, which is rebranded Stokkebye Nougat.

I absolutely do - my Great-grandfather's Prince Albert. He left it and his cob on the tractor. When I didn't think anybody was looking, I fired it up.

I had two: Murray's version of Royal Yacht which took me years to finish and a light aromatic in a pink painted tin whose name I can't remember.

coulda been any of the best selling "drugstore" items like Half/Half, PrinceAlbert,SirWalterRaleigh original et al,too long ago. One one at the time I'd get more than once...KentuckyClub original. Became total lataholic not long after introduced to original Dunnie #965. Latakia bomb at the time before Murrays wimped 'em down after taking over in early '70s
Ed Duncan, Batavia, NY pipe/cigar since '62

I remember it was Sail. If I then hadn't discovered Dunhill latakia blends I probably would have given up the pipe. Then -- i discovered Balkan Sobranie. Ambrosia for 20 years until its demise. Been a lataholic for 40 odd years. And according to my wife I've been odd for 40 odd years.

Yep.....
When I was 15 years old, I bought a giant/Jumbo-Peterson/full-bent with steck/military stem. The pipe was huge. I'm sure I looked like a moron holding on to that pipe, but it was all mine! I had to wait a whole year before I could load that ridiculous thing with tobacco, which was "Mixture No. 79". The guy in the candy store that sold me that tobacco looked at me like I came from Mars. I didn't care. I was gonna have me my first smoke.
So, when I turned 16 years old, my folks gave me permission to smoke a pipe. So I whipped out my giant Peterson, and fumed away on the Mixt. No. 79. I freight-trained thru many pouches of that crappy blend, and threw up my guts until I turned 17 years old. I didn't care. I was a young "man"...I lived in New York City...I was cool...I had a black-leather jacket... and, I smoked a pipe.
I was the envy of no one.

1961, squatted around a campfire with the Mongs, after a recon , Loa tobbaco, very strong puffed on the pipe and when I got back to the states via hospital, bribed a nurse to buy me a pipe at the Gedunk. I would sneak at night in the janitors closet and smoke Carter Hall. I still have the pipe , Kaywoodie Fine Line.

A Peterson System pipe I picked up at Shannon in 1984. Tobacco was Mr. Henry, which was probably 1Q. Now if I can just remember where I put it.

It was Mixture 79 in a corn cob pipe. I was in 9th grade and figured if it was good enough for Hef it would be good enough for me.

since it was only a little over a year ago, yep. Carter Hall, in a cob -- MM Legend, straight. Not too impressed. I moved on to Captain Black Cherry which was okay. Then I was sent CAO Black, followed up by Cult Blood Red Moon and I was in love
