Legend Lover........
You bet......Neil Peart is in a league of his own! His mentor was the late Freddie Grubber.
PS Another of my favorite drummers: the late great John Bonham from Led Zepplin

Well, as you can see the Rain, Rain app did not help much. With under an hour of sleep I’m up enjoying another pipe full.

Listened to so Damien Rice today. If you've never heard him he has some fantastic tunes, but in the mix some weird and awful songs with no melody at all. But when he gets it right, he's brilliant.
Some of his better ones are...
And
And lastly, one of my favourites...
Of course I'm sure you all know Cannonball.

Thanks for the advice, but I doubt the quality from a phone recording is worthwhile... I did it more out of experimenting with imgur to see what would happen.
As for the earlier post on Neil Pert.... that guy has to be some sort of advanced drummer from the future that was beamed back in time..... he ain’t human.

We have a cd of a light thunderstorm and rain that we have been listening to for years. I have tried simulator machines and other recordings and nothing else comes close. Every night for at least 20 years. It's "Rain" by Sleep Machine. If you can't find a copy, PM me. If the rain doesn't work, the next best thing is an audio book of Marcus Aurelius' "Meditations" Nothing like 1000 year old Roman philosophy to put your lights out.

That is one beautiful song. Paul Robeson sings it in the earlier version of Showboat. Frank sings it in a couple different covers. Puts me in a mood for Stephen Foster Music

I had an ap like that, but the rain sounded like frying bacon. It just made me hungry rather than sleepy.

I too at times use the Sleep Machine. I’m running a beta version of Rain, Rain on my iPad & iPhone and soft earbuds, which usually helps. This app has over 50 tranquil sound tracks, this developer is brilliant writing the code....one can not notice the loop which some people with severe insomnia could pick up on. So, between suffering from severe insomnia and small fiber Neuropathy pain, at times it’s very difficult for me to sleep. Lately it’s been more like catnaps during the early morning hours for me. PS
This app is like no other, I’ve tried many. I work very close with the developer of Rain, Rain. All of his tracks sound natural from Mother Nature. Rain hitting a window, tent, the street...many different rain tracks too choose from. Even white, pink & brown noise. The sound of an A/C, fan and so on can be chosen. Live tries the audio books in the past.

That must be tough, @lonecoyote. I woke up at 3am and didn't get back to sleep until around 5, but that doesn't happen much. I'm going to feel it today - can't even begin to imagine how you must feel.

I'm going to feel it today - can't even begin to imagine how you must feel. Hope you feel better and get some well deserved sleep today. The human body needs proper sleep too also heal. In the past 72 hours I’ve slept for less than 3 hours...not good. I will try again in a couple of hours.

Puts me in a mood for Stephen Foster Music I know it's almost sacraligeous to say so but Sinatra did not have the voice nor the attitude for this song. At the same time, I have a hard time understanding everything Robeson says due to his low registry. I'm feeling argumentatitive this morning.

Going to relax and put on my headphones and listen to my Classic Rock playlist on the Spotify Premium app on my iPad. My playlist consists of 1,072 songs. With the premium version if I lose internet service I can still listen to all of my music offline......and NO commercials!!!

Abbey Lincoln's album 'That's Him'. Music that seriously demands your attention (i.e. not for background listening).

Hehe, he's a major bass player from back in the day. I'd recommend his album 'Go' as it's friendlier than a lot of his other stuff as band leader.

Mozart Flute Concerto, the allegro maestoso. This is the Penzance of music.
It is lean forward and listen music, not lean back and check your cell phone music. Because of that it is ideal for smoking pipe.
One way of enjoying these kinds of things (that doesn't require a music background) is to try to discern the relationship between the flute and the orchestra. Do they like each other? Are they fighting? Are they being careful to preserve a fragile truce? Is one dominant and the other only supportive? Are they both trying to get your attention, at the expense of the other? Is one the pet of the other?
