I absolutely HATE UPS!
I just got a noticed that my guaranteed by today delivery was unable to be delivered because I wasnt here to sign for it. Attempted delivery at 6:28 PM. At 6:28 I was outside on my front porch smoking a pipe. There was NO delivery attempt made. Of course you cannot get ahold of a real human on the phone either.
Rant over.
My day was going good until this frustrating crap.

UPS Customer Service 1-800-742-5877; Did you try this number Josh?
Also, make sure you have a tracking number available too...
I tried that number immediately when I got the notification. I couldnt get a real person on the phone.
I'll have to go pick it up at their "access point" tomorrow.
The package doesnt even need signed for, and thats the reason they gave for not delivering....that's the best part.
Ok. Even though you're going to be inconvenienced in having to go "out of your way now" to retrieve a package that a driver should have delivered to your front porch (where you were enjoying a pipe) today, I would still attempt at some point tomorrow, to file a complaint against the driver that was suppose to deliver that package to you.
Possibly, the driver did not want to deliver the package, and wanted to go home early, and simply "abused" the reason that they could not deliver to you. It may not have been the first time this driver abused the system and inconvenienced UPS customers (the company sending you the package, and you being the person receiving that package).
At least, file a complaint. There needs to be documentation and a time-line established for this driver and abuse
For 19 years here in rural New Mexico, UPS was able to deliver only because Tony was working. You see, Tony gave enough of himself to memorize where everyone here lived. He was able to deliver packakges. Now that he has retired, the new drivers just take them to our local gas station and drop them off. Maybe we get them and maybe we do not. UPS could not care less. Buying a map of the area or downloading one would help but that is not the way UPS rolls in northern New Mexico.
I encourage shippers to use the post office. That has its own problems but usually the packages get here, eventually.

I'm most definitely doing that tomorrow. I just checked my email and my package will be at our local UPS Store available for pick up.
It's not the first time it's happened here either. Normally I just let it slide. But not this time. I was on the porch and there were 4 other people in the house, 4 cars in the driveway and I live on a dead end road. I would have seen the truck come down the road, turn around, and leave the road if he attempted to deliver.

That's really frustrating. I've worked service jobs most of my life, and I just can't imagine doing anything like that.
I don't understand folks like that driver.

I had a USPS package I mentioned in another thread, which took 3 days to go 46 miles. It took 2 days to go the remaining 300 miles. THEN I got a DELIVERED notice (left in mailbox). No, it sure as hell was not. I marched down to the post office, barged in, skipped the line, and raised hell. Took them 5 minutes to find it in the back...

I generally have no problems with USPS. I wont even bother with FedEx. UPS is normally a nightmare. Getting a package late is bad enough, but having the driver lie is a completely different story.

I called and figured out to talk to a real person... have to say "agent" after you make your first choice. Problem is the average wait time was 34 minutes. I dont have 34 minutes to sit around on hold. I have my little one today. O well, I'll just wait til Monday
My smokingpipes order came today. Early, as always. And that's why USPS is far Superior in my book.
Hearing these stories I'm so glad I live in a small farming town where I guess because we all know each other, issues like this never seem to be a problem.
Then I fear for the future when things will change and I will have these promlems.

Well, I'm happy to hear that you received one of your packages Josh!
About a year ago, I reconnected with an old friend who I'd lost contact with. He's moved back to our hometown, and we'd been hanging out and playing video games & stuff.
On a whim, I asked him tonight if he'd ever gotten into pipes or cigars. Turns out, he's been smoking pipes for about 4 years! He's got a pretty good collection of pipes but hasn't ever made it past drugstore blends. I put together a little sampler for him, & I'm gonna run it over to his house tomorrow. Later this month, we're gonna make a run to the city to go to the B&M.
I almost feel bad. This rabbit hole is deep & I'm just gonna shove him down it.
This place can be a support group for him...well, not really. We're more like the people hanging outside the support group looking for an easy target.

From my experiences with UPS, calling after hours gets you to a call center in the Philipines. They only know what is on the same screen which you can access directly. Also, while they are nice enough to speak with, for me, they have never followed up with the actions I was told. Better to wait until normal business hours.
Ditto Smokingpipes.com. They are amazing, how fast they move.

I sent SP an email about the open bag, they said they'd give me in house credit or send me another one, whichever I prefer. They also told me someone there probably opened the bag to add some to a smaller order and forgot about it, so it was fine to smoke it anyway. I wasnt trying to get anything free, was just making them aware of the "mistake." I also wasnt expecting a reply on Sunday morning.
