Beautiful day here in central north Florida...72° and sunny. Got some yard work done and grilled a couple of steaks...puppy had her share, of course. Finished staining and glazing some pipes for a friend...turned out pretty good. Sending him a custom tamper and a Beattie jet lighter (gold) in the return mail along with his cobs, of course.

This morning my BP was 171/86. Smoked a pipe, walked around the block and worked in the yard for an hour and a half. 98/73. Who knew?

Hearing these stories I'm so glad I live in a small farming town where I guess because we all know each other, issues like this never seem to be a problem. Then I fear for the future when things will change and I will have these promlems. I live in a very similar town. Somebody would have called the driver’s mom for sure.

Beautiful day here in central north Florida...71° and sunny. Couldn't ask for a better day to do nothing...sent off AJ's package with newly stained pipes, a Beattie jet lighter with a personal special tamper I made for my friend. Heading to the porch to have a smoke in my recently acquired Rd pipe. Great pipe from a great guy, hope this year brings him some joy...maybe be able to start making pipes again...that would make a lot of people happy, him, too.

I went into the garage to smoke a pipe. I ended up making a pipe in 30 minutes. The dye is currently drying and I'll cover it in enamel later on. There's a nice big draw on it too.
Again made from sycamore so it comes with a health warning. It was really fun making it.
I can't afford briar blanks at the minute because I would just ruin one, but I do enjoy making pipes.
All i have is a drill, a hand saw and a dremel. I use the top of a chest freezer to do my work and sawing and that's it.

Keep workin' it, Paddy...you will find as I did, that just playing with the briar and cobs is a great pastime....also soothes the soul. Another beautiful day here in central north Florida...sunny, bright and 73°. Couldn't ask for a prettier day. Sitting in the yard with a pipe and squirrels all around...big, I mean BIG owl sitting on the fence...waiting for lunch to pass by. Turned my chair around, don't want to see nature at work...where someone has to die for some other creature to eat. Heading in to fill my painted country gentleman with Anni Kake.

Is sycamore dust toxic?

It's under the poisonous section, but I'm not sure if it's part of it.

59° here in sunny central north Florida...perfect day to watch the birds and squirrels racing around. Had to straightened out my cellar and pipe area...getting to messy to find anything. Reamed out a couple of cobs that were building up some cake...had to glue in a shank, too. Got some wonderful briars and meers, but those cobs just keep on calling me. Checked the status of a package I mailed to N.C....last destination shown was Dallas, Tx. Looks like it is heading the wrong direction...went West instead of North...bit of confusion in the post office? He'll be lucky to get the package at all. Had a bit of tobacco coming from California...took 45 days to make it to Florida...should have sent it by carrier pigeon...would have gotten here faster that way.

Now struggling with Fed Ex over three deliveries. Same problem as with UPS, they are unable to find my location. I sympathize with outisders plight. The roads are not wel marked and the addresses differ with the State of NM giving my road one name and the County of Taos assigning a different name. Then there are some maps which use a name for my road which was correct decades ago but has since been changed by the above governments. There is not residential mail delivery here. All mail goes to the USPS Post Office. Now, the problem is both Fed Ex and UPS use the post office address data base for their delivery system. This means that when I try to register with either Fed Ex or UPS on-line "Delivery Manager" I fail becuase my address is "Invalid". If I could access their Delivery Manager systems I could add delivery instructions- you know, "go to gas station, drive north on highway 1/4 mile, turn left where the road is clearly marked, first house on right." Simple, eh? Yet, this cannot be done beacuse of their system limitations. For 20 years I have tried to explain to these organizations that relying upon the post office data base is not practical in rural areas. For 20 years I have been giving them directions over the phone. The fix is simple, just allow access to their own Delivery Manager system but this cannot be done. We sent men to the moon and brought them home again. We drove a satellite one billion miles to the Kaiper Belt past Pluto to meet a meteor, but we cannot deliver a package to a house which has been in the same location since 1911. Oh, the humanity!

On the phone with Fed Ex Technical Support. Well, on hold. So, they never heard of such a problem. Also, I need to be on the Fed Ex International website page. After conducting a Geography lesson covering the 50 United States and repeating the problem I was told that since my address does not exist I cannot register on their website nor will fedex deliver here. There is no appeal. There is escalation procedure there is just "We cannot get there from here". If this is not the dumbest company ever I do not who else is.

I don't know how to even respond to that. Crazy.

There's a chart here that says that sycamore is unsuitable for smoking foods (go to the last page). It's under the poisonous section, but I'm not sure if it's part of it. It’s best not to smoke a pipe made from sycamore wood, can do permanent damage to your lungs. Not worth taking a chance.
