Congrats, Ken...takes a strong man to do it. I know of one other that has managed to stay that way for some time and both of you deserve recognition for having the guts to stay sober...me, I have those days when I want to light up...but promised my wife that I would stay away from it. Got up from a miserable night, had to go to bed after Josh and Nick came over...got up this morning only because I wanted to make sure I was still alive...pain is incredible today even with the pain meds...guess I'm stuck on the porch or bed for the rest of the day...being able to post and hang out with you guys makes the pain worthwhile and tolerable.
Was good to see Josh and his son yesterday...made me feel a little worthwhile after all. Enjoying his treats he brought down for me.

My afternoon got shot so I'll have to spend it with you guy's. I was supposed to start moving a walk in cooler today but the beer people haven't showed up yet to empty the cooler and move their stuff so I can start my job. I hate when I have to depend on others to do their job. at least you get to spend time with us.

And by the way, you're very worthwhile. The Patch wouldn't be the same without you.

Thanks, Ken, I try to do my part for what ever I can do to keep the Patch going forward and not sliding into that mess we are all familiar with.
Working with Paddy to set up a raffle for all to be able to enjoy...got a lot of good stuff that members are willing to put up...all to support our Patch so it will all be worth it...take some of the load off Sparks, he has enough just keeping us apart from stupid sheit that none of us needed.

Slept like crap last night again. My oldest son is living with me again and since I only have 1 bed, I gave it to him. I slept on the floor... I've came to the conclusion that I am too old for that. I would be better off in the hammock outside. Oh well, hes my child and sacrifices will always be made.
Work was busy today, thankfully. It made time pass by. Now I'm at home, melting into a recliner, with a cup of coffee... eyes are getting heavy. I want a pipe, but it's going to have to wait an hour or 2.
I hope you all have had a good day

Glad your son is with you...right now that is where he needs to be. He needs the closeness and the feeling that you really do care, as you do, without any doubt.
Had a couple of smokes out on the porch, but I think it is time for a nap. Back later to enjoy the friendship of this great forum.

Glad some people are able to nap, believe me I’ve tried in the past with no luck.

Josh you gave your bed to your son, brought back memories of going to fishing camp with son, after a Hurricane, worked all day pulling carpet, furiniture, late in afternoon we left to return home, dirty, tired, bridge was out at intercostal, had to turn back and spent the night, no food, no power, next morning we were able to cross, stopped in Franklin at a pancake house, told the waitress, don’t let the table get empty, keep it full, the image of my son digging in the pancakes will stay with me forever. The waitress told me she had never seen 2 people eat so much. It’s the hard times he will remember, also you. You’re a good man, father, mechanic, you shine buddy.

out of touch again yesterday. I went on a tour of local maple syrup producers organized by a friend's daughter who is the county forester. very interesting, and will be delicious since i bought 4 quarts of the stuff, including one fabulous one which has the color of GUiness Stout. It's the maple syrup version of latakia--super maple! For those of you who don't know a lot about maple syrup production, I'll give a synopsis, for those that do, skip it if you like. One interesting thing is that suger maples are native only to northeastern north America. Quebec is the biggest producer by far, then Vermont, New Hampshire, NYand PA. These 3 states put togetherabout equal Quebec's production. However, all Quebec's production is controlled by the province, all the producers get a quota and have to sell to the provincial distributor. If they produce more than their quota, they have nowhere to sell it. As one of the guys here in PA said, "ain't socislism wondertful. they waste part of their production."
It is one hell of a labor and time intensive process for a few months out of the year. Depending on whether they are sugaring sugar maples or red maple,it takes 40 to 80 gallons of sap to produce one gallon of syrup. they all have these huge stainless boilers in a 3 step process to boil it down, and most of them first run it thru a reverse osmosis filter to increase the sugar percentage, which starts at 1 to 3 %, and they can get to about 15 % with that filter, then boiling gets it to about 65 % sugar. Interestingly, they know when it's boiled down enough by the temperature. when the boiling temp gets 7 degrees above the local boiling temp of water (about 209-210 F here), it's the right percentage. the reverse Osmosis filters are interesting, they use the same type used for desalinating seawater, but in the opposite manner. Instead of using the water and throwing away the sludge remains, they throw away the water and keep the "sludge". However, there's a market for everything; an outfit in New York buys the water and sells it as "all natural, healthy water from trees". The reason the sap gathering season is so short is because the best conditions are when it's below freezing at night and above freezing during the day. they have to stop as soon as the first sign of buds appear, the syrup gets a foul bitter taste (called budded) when the tree is budding. I guess that's the tree's way of saying, "OK, time to leave me alone". A big-ish producer around here gets 2000 gallons a year, for which they have to tap 6000 trees. By comparison, a big producer in Hew Hampshire taps 90,000 trees, and the biggest in Quebec taps a million trees and employs a whole town. Can you imagine tramping oround the woods drilling and pounding in taps then stringing tubing between them for that many trees? ...thus endeth the lesson on more than you ever wanted to know about maple syrup.

I only heard how it was done a few years ago. I had no idea what went into the manufacture of male syrup. I now understand why it's so expensive. Actually, I'm surprised it isn't more expensive than it is.

Actually Paddy, after seeing it done, i'm surprised too. especially buying it from the producer direct -- $16.00 a quart, 48 bucks a gallon.

Real maple syrup is my FAVORITE. When I was up in Massachusetts we took a trip to Vermont so I could get a few bottles to bring home with me.
And thank you for the maple syrup lesson.

Morning Josh, Ken, Ted and all the early morning Patchers...usually I'm in bed at this time...just getting ready for a drum roll of pain of trying to move...not today for some reason, TYJ, I'm not gonna complain about it...got coffee in hand just sent Josh a message and drinking my morning prune juice (yuk) but it works and I can feel the difference if I don't drink it...anyone need any cinder blocks? Haven't thought about what to smoke...just thrilled to be up and not in pain...maybe I'm dead and my body hasn't gotten the message.

Walt ^^^^^^^ hope your day gets better, I know what your going through!! I’ve slept less than 2 hours in the past 48. I’m going to make an attempt to see my Neurologist today, he and she tell me “ if you need us, make the call and come in immediately “! I think today I’ll see how well the offer stands👍

Good morning. Walt, I'm happy to hear of a pain free morning for you. Must mean you're going to have a great day. Just don't over do it. Ted, I hope you can get some relief and some sleep. I cannot imagine not sleeping for a couple days let alone having to live with it constantly. Hopefully the docs can help you today.

Well, leaving to see one of my Neurologist’s in Chapel Hill. Roughly an hour away, hopefully worth the trip. My Yello-Bole and pouch from ‘67 will accompany me, loaded with some very well aged Lane Burley & Black. It’s going to be a looooooooong day!!
PS Nobody here to help me, so I have to drive, but I’m okay enough to get there. It’s just amazing I’m always there to help family members, but they are always to busy!

Have a good day all Josh, this is the new saying that Nick should repeat to himself every morning when he wakes up. Him having a new home with a new chance to succeed. Woke up this morning with very little pain...thought "I might be dead"...told the wife that I would move that dryer and clean out the vent...she said not a chance...first day in years you wake up with little pain and you are going to tempt fate? That is why I am married, cause I need someone who will wake me up to not doing something stupid...I got a good wife and a good life.

Had the day off yesterday and today. Yesterday I cleaned the shop/garage, today messed it back up again! Haha. I was s'posed to have tomorrow off too, but the maintenance department scheduled power tests on all the inground lines around campus, and decided that tomorrow would be a good day since no one would be there. So, that necessitates my boss and me to come in by 7:30, and shut down EVERYTHING. Then they test everything, and then we bring EVERYTHING back up again. Did I say, "EVERYTHING"? I'm not a happy camper. Their record for "power testing" has been dismal. Fried servers and switches, etc. Can't wait.

Got in from work last night, wife check my blood pressure like she usually does. It was really high. Waited about 10 minutes and checked it again. It was still going up. 240/137. Got a little worried, so she took me into the ER. By then it was 248/148. I spent about 4 hours in there, getting drugs via iv to drive it back down. Got all sorts of tests, cat scan, xray, ekg etc. Healthy as a horse...except for that little, niggling b/p problem. Just picked up a prescription at Walgreen's. I guess its a good thing I had today off. Tomorrow, right back at it.
