Another pipe store bites the dust. A long standing pipe and cigar store in Sacramento has closed. This store has been here a long time. Here is the article that I missed back in May:
"Briar Patch, a locally owned cigar shop and lounge in downtown Sacramento, will close in upcoming weeks.
In an online announcement, the owners of the business at 1107 L St. attributed the decision to regulations on the federal, state and local levels.
"The onslaught of legislation has caused many increases in the cost of doing business, due mostly to increased license fees and compliance costs, that we can no longer keep up. We wish this were not the case, and we hope that in the future consenting adults are still allowed to enjoy the use of tobacco without further taxation and regulation," the announcement says.
A local ban on flavored tobacco products, which the Sacramento City Council approved last week, was a factor in the decision to close Briar Patch, its operators said in their announcement. The ban takes effect Oct. 1.
The business will close May 24, and a liquidation sale began Monday. Briar Patch was founded in 1983, according to its Facebook page. Its owners are Ron and Jeri Michelson. The business sells items such as cigars, pipes and smoking accessories.
Briar Patch previously also had a site in Loehmann's Plaza on Fair Oaks Boulevard. That location closed in 2017."
The Fair Oaks site closed because of complaints from neighboring merchants. Landlords did not renew their lease.
On a different note, a new pipe and tobacco store has opened just east of Sacramento in the burbs; Tobacco Road. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they can stay in business. It will be tough. They are not in city ,limits so maybe it will be easier on them.

Some interesting additional information related to the closure of Briar Path above. The store was a B&M targeting very high end clientele in cigar, tobacco and pipe. They also had a smoking lounge. What I discovered that behind the scenes, 30% of their revenue came from vape tobacco sales either online or by phone. With the loss of that 30%, they would be operating below cost. Interesting financial predicament. Despite the high prices on pipes and tobaccos, most of that is taxes and fees, not local store profit. They couldn't push the prices of tobacco any higher than they had, but it seems vaping is an extremely profitable business, if the 30% it represented of Briar Patch's business made up for a barely profitable pipe and tobacco line. For what it's worth.

With that rainfall/flooding, an inflatable boat, would be a handy item to have in reserve.

Oh please this swamp floods with regularity that is why way back when they all moved far to the north to start the original towns. Dayton was all rice fields and flatter than A cup size on a blonde not my first choice for a home site. You got to find a hill even a small one or build that house off the damn ground like they people used to do. Whoever thought slab on grade homes in a old rice field was a good place to build homes, well you cant fix stupid. I really feel sorry for folks who flood the first time by the third go around not so much. YMMV

Well the TV has the horizontal lines of death so now going to have to look for a new set. At first it was just one or two but now we still have two about three inches wide. I wish it was closer to super bowl Sunday when the new TV sets come out and deals abound. Any thoughts on what brand to buy to these days? It has been a good long while since purchasing a set.

Good tv that Viso, in fact most TVs are very good now as components are almost all the same, got a Zenith flat screen son gave me when he moved to Texas, the only drawback the SOB weighs a ton, and throws heat that the newer ones don’t, you won’t go wrong with an LG also, that’s my take on it.

It's not raining! Looks like we got a total of 13-14 inches at the house. A lot of people got a lot more.

Depending how long you're willing to wait, holiday sales will be hitting soon.
As for which kind of TV, as mentioned, most are pretty much the same. I do advise to not spend the extra money on a smart TV. Software support tends to not last long and its cheaper to buy a Chromecast, Roku, Fire TV, etc. If you use that sort of thing.

Still reading up them LG uses Samsung screens in a lot of their stuff but it is hard to beat Sony for picture quality so it really comes down to the processors more so than the screens itself. I wont be buying the latest greatest going from 1080p to 4k UHD should be plenty good enough would like a true 120hz and fast refresh rate. Computer screen is a 4k 28 inch Samsung and it was a nice upgrade from 1080p. Looking at 55 inch screens living in the Fifth Wheel that is about as big as we can go.

I have a 65" LG 4K thingy. It's been great, but one of the HDMI ports went bad. Other than that, resolution and performance is great. All these TVs are "smart", and have built in streaming software. I believe it's Vizio that has, or had, several models without smart software, if you'd rather not have it.

My town is having airport day. Huge fly in from all over. Wonder if slowroll flew in. Tons of old WW2 bombers and fighters, and biplanes, and everything. I'm no aviation buff, but it sure is cool.

Our Visio is the "monitor" type with no tuner, but it still does use apps to stream video from the major sources. We can stream from the AV receiver, DVD player, Tivo, ROKU, and cast from our phones and tablets as well as the TV apps. But the TV does not have cameras and microphones like my friends "Smart" Samsung so no spying from that quarter.

We live near the big Houston Airport. At any time there are around 14 planes in the air that you can see from the main road. It amazes me when I stop to think about it. 14 times 90 thousand pounds of metal, fuel and people hanging over our heads. 🙄
