So sorry to hear about your BIL passing, Ron...at least his pain is over.
Had to take the "baby" to the vet this morning to get her teeth cleaned and ear wax removed..just got back home with a much lighter wallet...but that is fine, cause the lil girl is family to us and nothing that I wouldn't do to make her life better...back is killing me today also...so back to the bed for me very soon.

My BIL just passed this morning just before 1 am. Thanks for all of your prayers. I am sorry your wife's brother had to endure so much misery in his short life. I am sorry for the pain this has caused your wife and you, as well. It is hard to see a sibling go like that.

In the face of all this cheery news, the weather here is 16 degrees, blowing 15 to 20 MPH, windchill, oh who cares, it is cold! Fresh snow on ground. More on the way.
So, it is that time of year. Enjoy it!! Wood stove blazing. Fresh hot coffee in the blue speckled enameled pot.

My BIL, Michael, was 60, but he had serious drug problems since he was 20. He was 18 when I first met him. Nice guy, hard worker when he worked. Wife's family lived in a neighborhood that was decent when they moved there but was terrible by the time he graduated from high school. Nothing there but drugs. Disfunctional home life. My wife is the only one who isn't all screwed up. She loved her little brother who she had to raise because her mother was busy.

That actually sounds pretty cool (from someone who isn't experiencing it but looking in from the outside). It's chilly here, but not like what you're having. Fire will be lit soon and youngest has a high temperature so will be going to bed early which means that I'll be home tonight to enjoy the fire, hopefully.

Welcome to Tejas were we run the air conditioner twelve months out of the year but still need a heater. It is 74 in the swamp and the butane heater has run every morning for the last two weeks. Note to self need one propane tank filled. Wait 24 hours or drive fifty miles if you don't like the weather. I love snow as long as I am just visiting. With John living around Taos I notice that when I looked at real estate listings every house had a wood stove. If I ever decide to sell wood stoves I now know where I am moving.

Most every house has a wood stove even if it is not the primary heat source. Electricity fails, LPG trucks sometimes cannot get out in Winter. Even Natural Gas was interrupted for weeks in winter here. That was a horrible scandal. If you do not have a wood stove back-up, one can be in serious trouble. Then there are people who prefer it as a primary source of heat. I would rather pay my younger neighbors to cut, split and deliver fire wood than some soulless corporation for LPG.

So I should open a wood stove store, import mesquite and oak from the Tejas hill country and start a propane delivery company?

So I should open a wood stove store, import mesquite and oak from the Tejas hill country and start a propane delivery company? The area is over served by LPG companies. There is a consolidation coming. There are at least two wood stove dealers in Taos. The only stoves worth selling are Vermont Castings and Jotul. The rest is junk. Iron stoves which weigh much and can take the heat without warping, bursting or leaking. I have given thought to driving across Kansas to the Mississippi Valley and purchasing oak firewood. Real oak can fetch $270 to $300 per cord or more from the rich of Taos. One would have to bring in semi-truck/trailer loads to make it pay.

Here is a reason to go back to bed.
It is 1342 and the temperature dropped down to 18 (F) degrees. Snowing lightly. The forecast is for an overnight low of +3 (F) degrees.
Should have added anti-gel when I filled up the truck. Probably will not have transportation for the next several days.

And here I was complaining about our mid 40's at night forecast.... SO glad I moved to the valley!!

60 car pileup on the I-90 Washington/Idaho corridor today. No fatalities, only 5 injured. More new to snow drivers up here every year.
Snow: Go Slow
Ice: Go Slower

Yes, but it could have been worse. Lots of truck traffic on that route and a big amount of crunched vehicles.

My BIL is not expected to last the week. My wife visited him today and he is out of it, 7-8 breaths per minute, irregular pulse. The hospice folks are saying that his willpower is all that's keeping him going. sorry to hear that, Ron. your family is in my thoughts. we've been there.

hubby is off all this week, so since Saturday it has just been running around doing one errand after another. I can't even remember Saturday-Monday. Yesterday was a little slower. Today I'm just gonna veg. Later I'll brown ground beef for chili tomorrow.

Snow: Go Slow Ice: Go Slower Black Ice: Pray They aren't necessarily new to snow. The worst snow and ice drivers I have ever seen are in Denver. They are so confident of their ability. I prefer people who understand physics and know their limitations.
