60 car pileup on the I-90 Washington/Idaho corridor today. No fatalities, only 5 injured. More new to snow drivers up here every year. Snow: Go Slow Ice: Go Slower Black Ice: Pray They aren't necessarily new to snow. The worst snow and ice drivers I have ever seen are in Denver. They are so confident of their ability. I prefer people who understand physics and know their limitations. I prefer V-Bar Chains but that is just me. Just another reason to be hated by the County Road Department.

Meanwhile, back here in central north Florida, it is sunny and hitting 80° today!

Sun is shinning. Chilly at around 30 degrees. I am waiting for this massive storm to arrive. We are forecast with four days and nights of snow. Snowmagedon! What will probably happen is a few flurries with a couple inches total accumulation and then single digit nights. The NWS seldom gets it right here. Even with that new instrument package they planted in the mountains above me.

My friend who lived in Jemez Springs would not buy a 4 wheel drive vehicle for that very reason. His 4th wife finally got an all-wheel drive Subaru when they lived in Albuquerque.

Black ice on a bridge over the Potomac put me on the guard rail looking down at the river water in my headlights.
At my advanced age, I take fewer risks figuring my luck has run its course by now. So, I try to stay off the roads if it is likely ice will be present. I have not seen Black Ice here in northern NM but that does not mean it cannot form. My old Ford weighs 8,100 pounds empty of me and a load. I do not want to slide into someone else's vehicle. Nor do I want to repair my own.

Warmed to 40 this afternoon. Now, high thin cloud cover is moving in. The leading edge of the snow mass or rain or toads, whatever is in store for us here.

Along with the big temperature drop, we have high winds today. A recipe for a power outage, which would be very poor timing with the Holiday approaching.

Maybe you will get some serious snow this year. Last time I saw the Rio Bravo It could use a good flushing.

It was 82 yesterday, 67 today but it's dropping. Still, compared to the rest of the country we're going to have a pretty decent week ahead. I have just spent 3 hours in gridlock. I had to pick up the duck for tomorrow, go to the insurance company and pick up the check, take the check to the bank and get home. A total of 15 miles. 5 mph. Sheesh! I have to get out of this town.

Black ice will make you change your shorts when you get home...scared the crap outta me once in western Texas. The first time I experienced black ice, I was drive back from a job somewhere north of Austin and in the middle of town an ice storm hit. Me and Jack hit the overpass and it was zero control. God was watching over us as we slid off the ramp into the parking lot and bumped up to the concrete bumper in front of the office. Didn't even need to move the car. We spent an hour crossing the freeway on the ice for a bottle of Old Granddad.

If we were 15 years younger it would be different. Today is her 68th birthday.

A happy birthday to her. Hope you both can eventually move. Your postings indicate an increasing frustration with Houston (as you once knew it).

Ten degree temperature drop in the last hour. Growing dark. Well, boys, it is going to be snow or frogs. Let us see what the Lord has in store for us tonight!
Yes, I got into the Wild Turkey a little early. I was making bread and needed a bump. The dry yeast was way old but is still kicking. I revived it with warm water and brown sugar.

A happy birthday to her. Hope you both can eventually move. Your postings indicate an increasing frustration with Houston (as you once knew it). The Houston I grew up in is gone as much as if it had been the target of multiple nukes. It's a pile of people from somewhere else who can't drive and don't care about anything or anyone. They've cut down all of the trees, filled in the wetlands and paved the prairies. When I was born Harris County was dairy farms, rice paddies, and a small downtown that was deserted on weekends. Now it's all subdivisions, 6 separate "downtown" areas, the medical center that is a city in itself. It's no wonder that we flood every time it rains. The gridlock is becoming a constant problem. I live off a Farm to Market road that was 2 lanes of asphalt. Now it's 6+ lanes with a middle turn lane that sees dozens of wrecks every day. The dirt along the sides are composed of tiny bits of cars that are too small to have been swept up. It is 20 minutes to get to the highway, and then another 20 to 30 minutes before the traffic drops to the point where I can relax. And I live on 30 miles from the center of town and outside of the city limits at the very edge of the county. Half of the population doesn't speak English. My nephew in Kilgore can get up, eat breakfast and ride his motorcycle to the Talamena Scenic drive through Arkansas and Oklahoma and be home in time to cook dinner. I wasn't made to live like this. We're definitely going to move before the next holiday season if at all possible. I might as well be in F'ng NYC! I like the woods and prairies with the occasional trip to the mountains. I like people, but only a few at a time.

I know what you mean Ron. First Western Washington got 'gentrified' and after the World's Fair, Spokane and adjacent were never to be the same.
*same with Portland, Oregon. I can remember when it was a very liveable city.

Miami in the 50's was like other places that have gone through what Houston has gone through...I remember 8th St. was cow pastures and farms, most of Miami was sleepy relying on tourists to come for the sunny weather. Now I refuse to go back...wall to wall traffic 2PM is the same at 2AM...wall to wall traffic...10 different languages that are mostly Spanish...but each country has its own dialect, so good luck with your high school Spanish...it'll get you nowhere real quick. Had to leave when I had to carry a 9mm just to go outside to my car...home invasion, drug cartels shooting it up...I remember seeing 2 cars going down US-1 with machine guns going off between two rival factions while they were driving. Just couldn't take the insanity anymore...moved to Tallahassee and it is getting sort of like Miami with the gangs killing youngsters. I stay on my porch in my fenced in property now...go to the market and back home fast as I can.

Honest, I know it's Wednesday, but it feels like a Friday. Most weeks every day feels like Sunday, but since the wreck every day has felt like Monday.

The most exciting thing I accomplished today was shaving off the beard so I can look dignified for tomorrow. I even plan to wear shoes and a shirt with buttons. I watched a YouTube video on how buttons work so I think I can still do it. I also ironed my trousers. Trousers are more expensive than slacks or pants as they contain wool. Also listing to Taco Puttin On The Ritz for inspiration. Also dug the baubles out of the floor safe. So I will be set for Thanks Giving dinner and might even get lucky and get to play with the kids mother.

Youngest daughter has been taken to hospital. She wasn't well yesterday but got worse during the night. Phoned out of hours who told us to take her to hospital. I hope it's just a drop of antibiotics that she needs. I'm at home not knowing what's going on. I hate that part.
Gonna try and get some sleep. Spare a thought for her, though, please.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
