You've been on fire, @cosmicbobo. Some interesting reads there!
I noticed when I was in America once, that the milk tasted a lot different to the milk in Ireland. My thoughts on the butter is that we have so much rain here the grass is excellent and the cows' milk is therefore excellent. I could be way off, but I think it's got something to do with it.
Kerrygold is good, as is Dromara and, heck, pretty much every brand of butter.

Kerrygold is good, as is Dromara and, heck, pretty much every brand of butter. I am guessing our process here has additives, like the milk most sell has 13% water. The Kerrygold tastes like it got kissed by the sun. And I have no doubt your rain on the grass helps out. In the Sixties I got my love (or at least early interest) in Ireland because of the Irish Rovers, whom I believe were Canadian, but I was a kid. Who knew? Then there were the Irish Spring Commercials. With a bar of Irish Spring in your hand it's like taking a shower in Ireland. The guy would take a slice off the bar so you could see that it was the same all the way through. AND, they showed beautiful Irish Scenery. None of this is to say I don't have other places I would love to see. But this is in the top three places. Thanks to the Internet I can see Ireland vicariously.

It IS a beautiful country...but like everywhere, you get complacent about it and forget to see the beauty that's in front of you every day.

in America we also treat our cows with lots of chemicals to keep them "safe" and "healthy" and some of that gets passed through to the milk and beef. also, most of our grains are tainted with GMOs, which is fed to our cows. so Ireland cattle would be better fed, and more natural compared to ours.

Well, I have to say not quite, Maggie. Right down the road from me is a dairy farme r who is a contract producer for Land O' Lakes. They have pretty rigorous rules about how the cows are fed and kept. He feeds them pretty much only hay and alfalfa from his fields, and that is about as natural as it comes. One of the factors that alter the taste of out milk products is the USDA requirements for how the milk is pasteurized. Our milk is pasteurized for quite a while and pretty hot, which affects the flavor and sort of makes it all taste the same. About 8 miles away is the dairy farm producer of the best Damn ice cream I've ever had, people come for miles to this dairy farm out in the the woods to get it from the source even though the stuff is in some area stores. But, whereas their ice cream is fabulous, their milk tastes like everybody else's. They also feed their cows only their own hay. So, don't be too concerned about "frankenfood".

I've never seen their factory, but Land o' Lakes is a quality product. Going by the butter it is in between the small dairies and the generic store brands. One of the things that drives me towards organic is that in shredded cheese, which I used a lot, they are "allowed" to put bug wing parts or similar stuff in. This is not a mosquito finding its way to the vat, they grind this stuff into paste and use it to keep the cheese fresher and firmer.
On milk, I have about four different organic brand to choose from. At least one of them pasteurizes, but does not homogenize, their milk. The cream rises to the top. It's worth the price I pay. I won't drink store brand or big brand anymore. When I get organic it's as good as having a milk shake.

Wait until the Feds catch up to the raw milk sellers, I'm afraid. We have in PA, regrettably, a law against selling raw milk, supported by the USDA/FDA. the local dairy farmer I mentioned is a friend of mine, and he won't even give me a cup of raw milk because he's afraid of a Fed or state ag guy coming out from behind a silo and handing him a summons; the fine is ferocious, you'd think he was dealing drugs. Too bad. I do wish I could put fresh raw milk on my cereal.

Try Organic, or do what I do. Still Organic, but I use heavy cream or half and half. Yes, Lady Margaret I am sure that has something to do with me dancing around in a 4x toga or 5x overalls.

Milk definitely tastes different from when i was a kid in the 60's, and not for the better. 😎

Legend Lover that sounds like as good of a plan as I have heard in a while. Hope it was fun. It's about as hot here as it is for you all. Bully the Chickenhearted is not handling the fireworks well. The neighbors always start days before and end many days later. Pees me off because I can't separate them from the gunshots. This is the city, after all, not suburbia. Snacked today on crackers, what's left of the Kerrygold Butter (went quick), some salami, and Kentucky Moon cheese. Smokes: IR International. Started the day with Five Brothers. Will end the day with it. Borkum Black Cav. Murray's Whitehall. All of these that are from ST of Penn (Murray's, John Cotton, Bengal Slices, Dobie, Warhorse) I wish they would produce some 8 ounce tins. If they sold bulk there would be too much competition with other bulks, but for those who like the brand and are loyal to it would appreciate the larger tin for storage. I'd stock up. To all that celebrate, have a wonderful 4th. Tomorrow it's words that begin with N. Let's just keep this on a Need to Know Basis

Yes, happy fourth to all. I've got 3 Corgis, and one of them is terrified of fireworks and gunshots when I shoot. The other 2 don't care a bit. Hopefully tomorrow stays clear, I'm on for an airshow for the neighbors to add to the noise.

david , gotta love a Corgi of any ancestry. My first Corgi 45 years ago was a mix. Have had about 10 more since. Wish they lived longer.

I remember when the milk man used to deliver to the house...glass bottles and always fresh and delicious...those days are gone.
Spent some time with the graves of my last 3 "babies" (standard sized Chihuahuas). I really miss them. We have a shelter/rescue that we got 1 year ago. She has epilepsy so we take her wherever we go in her stroller. She is a doll and couldn't be sweeter. She understands what we say and responds accordingly. Sorry to get off on a story that I'm sure no one is interested in.
Happy smoking folks, enjoy the day.

My wife would have a zoo if she could. To be honest, while I love my dog and cat, I would be sad for my wife more than myself.
