After years of drinking copious amounts of both milk and fruit juices, I gave up both due to amount of sugar content in both, loaded in most. The only fruit juice I drink now is the Kroger Version of low sodium V8 which isn't too bad on sugar. As for milk, I don't know if the sugars are natural or added but I do know there's way too much for my current diet requirements. I also gave up everything from energy bars to high sugar condiments, dropped 30 pounds I'd put on in the office over the years in six weeks and never looked back.
As far as diary farms, operation practices vary significantly. What I can state definitively is the primary source of calves for veal operations I personally witnessed were male calves from dairy operations. To say the least, the calves were treated harshly. They were chained in small inside enclosures where they couldn't even turn or lay down, drugged up, fattened up and shipped out for processing. It was extremely cruel and no amount of hand wringing by others will change my mind about this because I've personally witnessed it and know it's happened in even more graphic terms than I've described. Fortunately, a good percentage of these operations have been shut down thanks to the good efforts of many people including some in the farming industry as well as organizations opposed to these practices; nevertheless, some still exist. For these reasons, I avoid veal at the local Kroger.
I'm working on updating computers today. On my best day, I'm just a mild mannered hobbiest trying to keep things running with the meager skills I possess. I know there are some who love Apple and have had a pain free experience; however, I prefer the ability to extend beyond the Apple Store and their proprietary rights. Simply changing a battery in one of their lap tops requires a special set of screw drivers and was a nightmare including excessive costs. I had Apple and went back.
Enjoy the holiday y'all.

Good Luck with the puter, Mark. Milk, to my knowledge, has no added sugar, but it has natural sugars. I totally agree with you on veal. I won't eat it either. Sure wish we had a Kroger here. They got tired of being the #2 store so they left Saint Louis. This is also why I am buying Free Range, Grass Fed, Organic stuff when I can. I grew up on V8, btw. As to fruit juices I don't order too often, but don't worry about the sugar when I do. I used to use them or sodas as mixes for my liquor, but over the years I prefer juice and soda on their merits. Even prefer them to beer.
Happy Fourth you you and all as well.

the heat index here is 120 degrees F, which is obscenely and ridiculously hot for where I live. I am ready to move to Utqiagvik, Alaska (formerly known as Barrow) until Autumn.

Holy moley that's insane. I'm struggling with 80°F with no air con. Ireland hasn't seen so little rain in a long time.

Until it just rained, it was 90 F. Now down to 72. I hoped that this summer would be cooler, since the winter was fierce, we had weeks where it was 5 below 0 F for days, and winter lasted until about May. Oh well. I don't have AC either, because we usually have only about 10-15 days total above 80 F.

Usually fireworks by the neighbors slow down at 9:45 PM. Half hour later and it is louder than ever, and we won't let poor bully go out with this much noise

Was able to sit out by 8:40, and by 9pm the air was cool. Hubby and I are headed north today, so should be seeing cooler temperatures for the next week Yay!

I thought I'd moved away from that when I relocated back to the 'burbs but it's actually worse here. It started last weekend. Streets are littered with bottle rockets this morning. It slows down around 9:30ish here too but there were a few idiots still at it after 11:00 PM last night. My HOA dues weren't worth a bent nickel last night.

Why is it the bigger dogs shake from thunder and fireworks? I had a Cairn Terrier years ago that would sit on my lap on the back porch and wait for the next rocket or tower Roman candles to go off on the 4th of July. I swear this dog Toto made a few attempts to applaud with her paws. Also my very small Chihuahua was the same, absolutely nothing frightened him. The one dog here which is a Plot Hound, a real mush, basically a big goofy lap dog. This dog is afraid of his shadow, let alone thunder or fireworks. Any other dog owners notice this with smaller dogs???

They finally quit at close to 1am. We're in urban area, so no dues, but the cops do little good, even though it would be a money boon for them at 500$ per fine

Now it's only Bully and he is as bad as our previous Pit, Willy, and Lab Pit Babe. So you pretty well nailed it

@cosmicbobo @lonecoyote
When I was growing up, we had a part Husky, part Samoyed. Whenever there was a storm, Cyrano would jump in bed and cower under the covers. Now, we have a terrier and she barely bats an eye during a storm. I don’t know why big dogs are like that, but it’s very entertaining.

The big goof ball here named Luke will jump on my lap shaking from any loud noise. It’s just pitiful.

Smoking some Holiday Match and enjoying it in my MM Devil Acorn. Five Brothers, Chatham Manor, Uhle's Perfect Plug (from @10furlongs), Iwan Reis International Blend, oh, and two scoops of Murray's 1862 Whitehall. Dr. Bradley's for later with some cheesy Sci-Fi flick. Legend Lover I think I can speak for the Chroniclers in wishing you the best easiest outcome for your throat. Everyone else, I hope you all have a great weekend. Mark, hope Thor is getting ready to get his Private First Class Stripe. I have to get under an umbrella, as the moon is in the Seventh House and Jupiter's aligned with Mars

Glad this work week is over. Too many hours for too little return. I'm glad to see the number of Match Holiday users growing again. If we keep this up maybe they'll reintroduce that beautiful cannister it used to come in. I have to go spend the weekend in Puebla again. My parents keep inventing excuses for their kids to visit and I'm tired in general from all this. Plus I found out yesterday that company will have trouble making payroll this month!

Sorry about the company troubles, zambini . I sympathize on family, too. I worked 6 days/week on graveyard shift, which is like never having a day off, only hours. On holidays, with parents divorced, I would have to be running all over the place. I know the feeling. As I ponder the Holiday tin at PipeStud's I feel the same way. I would buy a tin for the beauty alone. One of the reasons I love C&D is for their artwork. Yeah, I seldom talk about C&D when Iwan, Sutliff Match, and Five Bros are around. If I had to live off one brand I would probably pick C&D for variety and art.

Turns out I didn't end up with Dr. Bradley or Sci-Fi. I have this big can of Granger here from last year and only had one bowl out of it. I didn't do many reviews last year due to whatever ailment made some tobaccos foul and others tasteless. I knew better days were ahead and they have been better. Granger (last year) tasted pretty much like burley with phosphomolybdenum added. It's an intolerably stinky chemical used on old lab tests. As I am smoking this now it is very pleasant, yet it has some sort of barbecue smoke flavor. It is not out of place, actually. It might even mix well with Vermont Meat Candy (H&H). The nice news is the can won't sit here for ten years now. It can slowly go down.

Thanks for the well-wishes, @cosmicbobo. And zambini - I feel your pain re your parents. After my dad died I try to see my mum as often as I can, but she expects me to be there practically every day without acknowledging that I work full time and have my own family who need to see me. Plus with my wife working nights it's not that easy. Still, you get the emotional blackmail...it's draining. But she's my mum, and she brought me up, and I love her, so I bite my tongue and get on with it.

LL, your a good man👌👍. Enjoy your Mom/Mum as much as possible now but she too must realize your other obligations in life. Have her over your home more often when possible, may make it easer on all involved. This November 23rd will be four years my Mom passed and I think of her daily, we were very close!!! Rest In Peace Mom, your in my heart for all eternity.

My old man has passed so, like yourself, I only have Mom now. I've told her I'll do what I can but the bottom line is you can't help somebody who won't help you help them. It's a tough conversation but it ended the guilt tripping. I wish you the best. Otherwise, great horse racing action today at Arlington in Chicago and Belmont in New York. Should be a fun afternoon enjoying the races and pipes. Thor progressing very well. He's starting to get the hang of things and basic commands are setting in as well. Pretty neat little guy. Hope old Daddy has enough gas left in the tank to take him through his journey. I'm doing the best I can.

With all the teams outside of Europe eliminated from the World Cup it's starting to look like a France v England finals. If Russia wins it all I'm going to get so mad at the Uruguayans.
