Haven't gathered much intel to report. Almost had to send Xuan to the hospital. She got too much heat and over several days was doing everything from asking me if she took Bully out, five minutes after she took him out and actually hallucinating. Anyway, I got her cooled down. Then she wanted to cut the grass. I talked her into paying someone to do it and a couple days in the Air Conditioning and she's better. Had it not happened to me some years ago I wouldn't have figured it out. These are times to be thankful whatever your lot in life. Alternatives are not always the coolest JimInks once accused me of being on the Wittness Protection just because I decided to use my own name rather than a "Handle".Now I know you are a real catheter, but my colostomy stitches are really getting in a knot trying to keep up with your "Names".

Morning y'all. Thor had a pretty good week but he's been aggressive along the fence with people walking by on the sidewalk. Hated to do it but I have to nip this behavior in the bud fast here in subdivision land so I bought a shock collar. Before I put it on him, I put it on me. At mid strength, it's like putting your tongue on a 9v battery. Crank it up and it'll definitely get your attention. Zapped him last night when he crashed the fence with a couple children and a little poof dog walking by on the sidewalk. He jumped in the air and did a full 360 before hitting the ground again. Maybe a little bit too much - Bad Daddy. We'll get this all worked out.
Fields have been uncharacteristically weak at Saratoga so far this summer meet. There haven't been a lot of chances to make a return on investment without going all in on big win bets. Del Mar has been better but I'm cautious about my wagers there as I don't have the best of histories wagering on California tracks. For some reason my pace handicapping numbers haven't been as effective there as other tracks. They were developed based on par times for my home track, Churchill Downs, which is a much deeper surface so this isn't too surprising. I've tried tweaking them for the harder surfaces but not much luck so far with that one. Fortunately, there's always a second act the next Saturday in horse racing.
Jury duty is over for this cowboy. Somebody has to do it. It's one of our most important rights. I'm retired and a better candidate than someone still making a living; however, two days a week for six months is too much for too long. Kentucky needs to do something about this one. Cutting it in half would be appropriate.
I've thinned the briar herd in half and need to do something about the tobacco cellar too. I know I could just send it to y'all, problem solved. I'm going to take the same approach with thinning the cellar as I did my briars, keep the stuff I like and get rid of others which will sell for jack. Pipestud's 30% commission is pretty rough but I'll still have a positive ROI when the smoke clears so I'm going to put together a box for shipment tomorrow.
Speaking of positive return on investment, I recieved 2% on a twelve month CD at the bank this week which is the first time I can remember that one in a long time. You can't put it all in the markets and need a good cash position for a balanced portfolio. At the high water mark my old man made between 7% and 8% on CDs back in the day. Of course the folks were also paying double digit interest for a mortgage as well. Just have to roll with the punches, pick one's poison, hope for the best but plan for worst.
That's a wrap for this Saturday morning. Have a good weekend y'all.

Nephews birthday party is today. First he wanted to be a rocket, then a car, and now it's all about dinosaurs. In any case, I need to find time to edit an article for publication this weekend and avoid looking at everything they are knocking down in my neighborhood. It breaks my heart seeing everywhere I have memories at destroyed and replaced by some fast food joint.

Did a little gardening before the heat set in. Now it is just veggin for the rest of the day. Started the day with my usual bowl of Butternut Burley in a cob...then hit up Sutliff's Edgeworth also in a cob.
P&C is having a sale with $39.00 minumum for shipping!

There probably aren't 20 100 year old buildings left in town.

Went up north today and dropped in with a few different friends. Was great catching up, but the rain was crazy.
It's the first proper rainfall in ages and the flooding was mad. The evening was a cool 53 F. Almost too cool for a pipe. Doesn't matter, I'm too knackered to have one. I'm off to bed.

Post count passed 3000 too. What a great few months this has been.
I've made some great friends here.
What I've noticed is that many people who come here already seem to know other people.
I Didn't know anyone before I joined but I was taken in by you all as if I was one of you... So thanks.

I'm always surprised how new downtown Houston is and how they must have knocked down near 20 city blocks just to put up the stadium and convention center. I, personally, don't find it very attractive. I find downtown Fort Worth to be better preserved and more to my liking.

I'm always surprised how new downtown Houston is and how they must have knocked down near 20 city blocks just to put up the stadium and convention center. I, personally, don't find it very attractive. I find downtown Fort Worth to be better preserved and more to my liking. Well, Fort Worth built the downtown area at the peak of their growth, and then the economy shrunk a little and stabilized. They also planned for the future. Houston's growth has not yet peaked, and there has never been any planning at all. Houston was founded by New York City real estate speculators and has been controlled by the developers ever since. In my lifetime there have been three elections to enact zoning, and they were all defeated by huge margins. On the other hand, there is a liveliness and energy in Houston that is missing in other cities. Note; The buildings that the knocked down were mostly abandoned warehouses. The neighborhood was a separate city in 1910 called Harrisburg. It was where my mother was born. It has been on hard times for many decades. The stadiums have really been a boon to the area that was mostly populated by rats before the new development.

We visited my hometown, the Houston Heights. It has changed a lot over the years, but it's still a great place. We had lunch at Carter and Cooley deli. It is named for a couple of famous Heights residents, and located in the old Wards Drugstore building. When I was 4, my brother was 14 and he delivered drugs on his bicycle and ran the soda fountain. They had toys upstairs and I was there every chance I had. Around the corner the old butcher shop is on it's 10th iteration as an art gallery/antique shop. We poked around for a while and chatted with the very sweet German gentleman who was holding his 21 year old Corgi. I was looking for some small cups for Greek coffee. I had seen several sets that were expensive, but I told him what I was looking for and he said "I have just the thing"! He went to the back of the shop and dug into the back of a cabinet, and produced a set of 24ct gold Neiman Marcus demitasse cups and saucers. $14.50. We stopped by a frozen yogurt store by the old, historically protected water tank and had watermelon sorbet and Nutella frozen yogurt. Then to Buchanan's nursery, the only place it town that had TAM jalapeno plants. Wife and I bought a few discounted plants and got out for only $35. Trust me, that's a feat in this place, which has $895 flower pots. Home to a two hour nap. A nearly perfect day.
