I got an order from P&C today. Everything arrived and not damaged, but see the pics below. This is a deal killer for the future. First, the boxes they use are fold opens that form the bottom and needs no (they do need) tape. The one tin was in bubble wrap, but the rest was just put in there. I am so amazed that nothing was lost. If this was one time it would not be an issue. Last year it was the computer. Then Moldy Boxes, which I got bitched at for pointing out until Russ found a bad lot. Every third or fourth package is packed okay. Most of the others do the job... barely. I took these pics before opening the box. I am sure someone somewhere will call me a whiner again. Oh, I did use the contact form. Out of three times prior I got one answer

If you look at the bottoms the flat box opens up to a bottom that appears to need no tape. Also, the extra space was enough to do some damage. The boxes are also very weak cardboard compared to others. Not sparing UPS and USPS my vitriol, but this never happens with SPC, 4 Noggins, WV Smokeshop.

Either way, it's still unacceptable for a delivery to arrive like that. I'm glad there was not loss or damage, though.

...I received boxes from P&C just like that...very poor QC and sub-standard boxes...However, P&C are about the only ones who carry the "Match" blends...if you can catch them in stock...

+1 on receiving similar packaging from P&C (i have had a few boxes just like that) I agree that P&C has very poor QC all the way around BUT THEIR shipping department needs a weekend training camp P&C holds Low Customer Value and is a mass volume dealer with disregard to their customers, products and presentation upon arrival. it is cheaper (which makes them money) to send out piss poor packaging in hopes not to have to replace items or orders compared to spending the little extra time, tape and bubble wrap to properly get the job done right the first time 2cents worth

I do not order from P&C for the most part. I do order from their partner in crime Cigar International and have never received a package like that. For pipe things and tobacco it is sp.com and some of the smaller mom and pop places and I have never worried.

P&C packaging might be better, but definitely UPS work!

I'm sure the packing inside the box could have been better but I would say the box didn't look like that when UPS picked it up. My take is that the box wasn't packed full and UPS put it on the bottom of the stack with a number of heavier items on top. That box was crushed in shipping.

Packaging should be securely done to accommodate the specific contents, and to protect against potential crushing. They just as well might have sent that shipment in a paper envelope for all the good the box accomplished. Guilty of "care less" thoughtlessness.

Peter, that is exactly the reason I order from them. I've never mourned a dented tin or dinged boxes. This is the end, though

Sutliff Matches are big with me. Price. A few products I would have to get from three different sources, SP not being one of them, as they don't carry them. Lastly, they had improved... until now.

I agree the boxes and packaging should be way better but I have never had the mail, fedex or ups deliver something in that bad of shape. I would be embarrassed to deliver that.

With the exception of a slight delay with one shipment when their bug laden tracking system screwed them, I've had no problems with any purchase from P&C, even with their laughably crappy packing. And more recent shipments have been better packed. From the looks of the box in those pictures, I'd be holding UPS or USPS responsible for cruelty to boxes.

I have received a dozen or so orders from P&C and all were well packed and in great shape. Though, I do live the same state and it hasn't got far to go.

Sp uses usps for free shipping on everything I've ordered even for the largest orders. Ups is hard on any boxes that have a single wall with a fair amount of weight. I ship a ton with ups and anything with heavy components goes through the ringer on just their shipments. It may also be the shipping route as in the facilitues it goes through. Overall size to weight ratio makes a big difference in ups shipping.

If your carrier is a determined slayer of goods, no amount of filler is going to mean diddly squat. Why not just contact P&C or Russ yourself, tell them about this thread yourself, and make them aware of your displeasure? Russ is a member here. Let him know.

When you see them fedex/ UPS/ USPS trailers packed with parcels, they are loaded floor to ceiling, and if your box is unlucky enough to be on the bottom that is what happens.....thin corrugation and lack of tape exacerbates the problem. Any air cavity in a box will generally result in a box looking like Merriweather used it for a workout.
When I first started ordering from P&C they had some real shipping issues, they addressed them and I haven’t had serious problems since then... a few dented tins, but the seals held.
The only recent problem was mispicks on the RussO selection... they gave me too many of one and not enough of another, and they more than made up for it with a complimentary shipment.
As a gentle rebuke, it is always better to contact the company and give them the opportunity to respond and see how it is handled. On firearms, chocolates, roses, I have seen people complain online, and after taking the advice to contact the supplier, it is resolved... most companies understand the effect that the online reviews can have on the bottom line and want to address it.
Quit being a whiner, David!
Just kidding, you have valid concerns.

The boxes are just crap, though. They didn't use these boxes the first few times I ordered from them. No tape on the bottom, so it is able to come apart. I get UPS here 2x a week. FedeX are gorillas. I challenge anyone to take a piece of cardboard from a P&C box and match it up to an SP box.

What part of cheap boxes does no one understand? What part of the top quarter of the box is air space does no one understand? What part of shipping with a gorilla carrier and not using a better box does no one understand? I delivered meat and cheese and packaged boxes all day when I was young. I have 2K 100% positive on eBay, and I can barely move my arms and do better.

Pc uses stock uline brand boxes, I think sp gets theirs local. I haven't looked at the maker seal on the sp boxes.

Here is the bottom of the box. Notice no tape. It is made to unfold the flat box and have the bottom already done. Any real weight on this will push through the bottom.

I have had about 10 boxes from P&C, and all arrived in perfect condition. But, they were all much smaller than the one in the picture. I have noticed the tapeless bottom. While it is a good idea for the smaller boxes, there has to be a point where the box design is upgraded. Amazon boxes are all over the place. The longer ones always bend in the middle and crush. I just got a box of 11 bags of Biggs Bacon Sunflower seeds in the manufactures box, and I can stand my 260 pounds on it, empty!

We get a lot of our non-perishable food from Amazon and Walmart. Walmart can be as bad or worse than what I received today. Xuan and I have more choice on food delivery than we had before, but we still need our sources. Really, that's the same reason I kept up with P&C.

I've never had a delivery in a box like that. Sorry about your experience. I don't know what is happening to them over there at P&C. I had good business dealings with them in the past.
