The parameters I thought of were that it had to be a tobacco with a variety of blends, but all under the same type of label, not available in tin.
Though Sutliff is cheap by the pound it is not considered a value blend. Codgers are actually quite expensive.
Some places have labels like Ohm that some here smoke, so please explain that.

Compare that to Carter Hall and Prince Albert at 3-something. If it were in a tin, it would be priced the same as most other 9-10 dollar tins. |

I guess I'd have to go with CH and PA. I feel like unless you smoke the Cavendish blends of these other companies, you are just smoking cigarette tobacco. I voted for Super Value though. Their 'English' blend surprised me. It certainly put John Bull to shame.

 When I do a "Value Blend" it's usually Smoker's Pride black cavendish.There isn't really any "Cheap" tobaccos because of taxes, but $17+ at the discount tobacco store beats $50 for Capt. Black 14oz. tin there. I buy most of my tobacco online anyway.

Not pompous, but (for myself) I have spent tons on finding the right Black Cav, amongst the name brands only to like Smoker's Pride and Whitehall Black Tie better. WBT is only one type, so I didn't include it. AC, SV, VA Gold have the Black and Gold and Natural Cav that I like. I've spent some pretty big bucks on some major and vintage blends and few make my regular list. So, my basic thought was that if someone offered me some PS or Sutliff Black Cav or a bag of SP, same weight both free, I would take SP. |

The only bulk tobaccos in my cellar are Samuel Gawith Best Brown, Full Virginia and St James flakes. and Stonehaven. I paid right around 55 a pound for all my SG and 35.00 for my 8 oz bags of Stonehaven.
When I figure out the per gram price for my SG flakes it works out to be about .12 cents a gram. A 4 gram bowl is .48 cents. I can smoke a 4 gram bowl for 2 hours and just one of my old cigars would be at least 5 bucks a stick. I would get an hour smoke for my cigars so I am doubling my smoking pleasure and my costs are minimal.
My Stonehaven works out to be .15 cents per gram so .60 cents for a 4 gram bowl. My most expensive tinned flake is St Bruno flake at 13.49 a tin only costs .27 cents per gram so 1.08 for a 4 gram bowl. Totally cheap again when comparing it to cigars. Where are you going to get a 1.08 cigar that is great that smokes for 2 hours?
My SG bulk flakes are not that much more than tubs of OTC tobacco, we are talking pennies per bowl difference.

My favorite value blend is Smoker's Pride Rich Taste. But I have only tried 2 or 3 value blends at the most.

Do Lane and Stokkebye count? Oz-for-oz I bet they're as cheap or cheaper. Especially with things like the perennial $1.25 per oz offer at P&C, advertised on pipesmag. But of the three I'd choose Sutliff, no contest.

The ones I am talking about use all the same packaging and label, just change the blend name. (See use of Generic below) Low Country is an exception because the bulk is fairly new to the market, but the flavors are similar to the value blends. My thought (and here I get into trouble) was when I saw JimInks The Man From I.N.K.S. give SV English a four star review I was totally impressed and started looking at what I have. I am not even a novice on English, but I loved it. Then I read the brand has some legs, so to speak. I have 3 pounds of AC Natural. 3 pounds of AC B&G. 3 pounds of SP Black Cavendish. 10 pounds or more of LC. And on and on. I also have 3 pounds (several cans each of) Distinguished Gentleman, CCP&BN, and several Sutliff and Lanes. The DistGent is not exactly cheap at close to 50 pound. I spent about 80/pound on 3 pounds of Vintage Briggs. 80$/pound on Esoterica Ramsgate (80$ mistake of my life). Pretty much, though, those cheap (maybe Generic works better) Yeah, it does, are my go tos. |

(IMHO) Too many of those so called 'value blends' are noting but an excuse fro RYO tobacco. Now, something I am not a novice on is smoking cigs. I smoked 4 packs of Pall Mall a day until I was 28. There are huge differences. Camels are, or used to be, made out of Turkish. Not sure if they fit into generic tobeys. Or, you are trying to stir it up with me. If so, thou hast succeeded |

I think LC comes close edit - I was thinking CH, not Chatham. That is a lot cheaper than CH. So I could almost put the Midtown Series in with Generics, but they are not really available in stores |

I'm probably one of the few with VA Gold in my cellar. I bought all varieties when the intro price was 7.25$/9 oz. I had a 20% coupon, so I was in the less than 6$ range. It seems to have a little more chemical hwang, but it's not bad

super valule has a few decent blends.. I tried the vanilla and amoretto.. black and gold.. all were ok smokes.. the English is a good have in the fishing vest blend.. nice smoke for repeted bowls on the water.. never tried chocolate but hear its good value blend as well

Those who smoke these blends, do you detect similarities of those made by the same manufacturer? Meaning, is SP pretty much the same as VG? And further, are they just repackagings of other Lane blends (1Q, RLP, TK-6 etc.)?
