As you know, I am new to the world of pipe smoking. For many years I have been a cigar smoker and have a rather full Pelican 1620 that has been converted into a humidor where I have cigars that I have been aging for the better part of the last 15 years. Ask me about aging cigars and I can tell you what I know, but cellaring pipe tobacco I am lost.
So, this now leads to my questions, when you procure tinned tobaccos that you wish to cellar, do you: 1. Leave them in the unopened tin as procured 2. Open the tin to allow air in and then cellar 3. Transfer from tin to properly cleaned (new) mason jar
I ask as I would like to start to cellar tobaccos as I find ones that i enjoy and would like to ensure that I have at least a modest amount on hand should the company close their doors like McClelland has chosen to do.
Thank you in advance!

75% of my cellar is the original tins. FYI
I used to use mason jars but switched to sealed mylar bags for loose and esoterica bags.

I like mylar bag idea but nothing beats holding up a jar and shaking it .. moving onto next shaking it and gazing at it ..keep doing that until I find the right jar to open!
