By numbers yes, but you had online tutoring to figure out pipe smoking. Us pre internet smokers have you on years.😁 As to a future, all of the FDA and WHO garbage saddens me for the new guys. You have me there, bud. I actually started in highschool, but gave up after only a few months. My only tobacco was Middleton Cherry and I had no mentor- Can you blame me? Hahaha Sure glad I gave it another go. I started just after my Junior year in High school in 1991. Never thought Middleton Cherry was bad. Good in a cob, but easily smokable in a briar. I learned by trial and error, and didn't even know of online pipe forums until 2014.

2007 here, but I always knew I was a future pipe smoker when at a young age I saw bing puffing away in white Christmas.
