I hope everything works out well for you, Exchef. Is relocating the family closer to the job an option? It's hard to uproot kids, but often it can be good in the long run. I'm a military brat, so moving every two to four years was commonplace for me. Relocating is not an option. I do think that I have figured how to reduce the commute to something more tolerable though. ExChef

A 4 hr round trip commute is a tough. I'm sure you've considered pay vs quality of life.
How much money is time with your family vs time on the road worth?

I think that I may be able to shave 45 minutes off of that commute. I had forgotten to take into account the commuter rail system that MA has, there are a couple stations not too far from me. That would eliminate the 1hr into the train station to take me into Boston. This becoming more do able. ExChef

Although it is still a considerable amount of commuting time, the fact that you won't be stuck in a car in gridlock traffic makes it much less wearisome. My new job requires that I travel pretty much every week. I either leave on a Monday and return on Thursday or head out Tuesday and come home Friday. It's a lot of time on the road, but the position is a great one and the pay is good. Congrats and best of luck. Dino

Well it’s official, I have accepted the offer that was made to me from the company in Boston. I am still holding out hope that the other offer comes through, the work from home one.

Working from home can be a slippery slope. It takes a lot of discipline. Also, you need a reason to get out of the house and see what's going on in the world. If you get the work from home, you should have a regularly scheduled head office visit. Plus, it's going to keep you a real person to the management if they know you.

I've done the work at home thing for weeks on end, there is something to be said about having an office to go to. Of course there is internet at my local smoke shop and I wouldn't be the first to work from there.
